Sean was definitely going to do his job if Candy didn’t backoff.
In the end, Candy didn’t want to embarrass herself. She quiddy pulled her hand back when she noticed bystanders approaching.
“You’re going to regret being so stubborn one of these days Taylor!” she snapped, then stormed off in anger.
Sean turned to me. “Are you alright, Miss Jones?”
“I’m fine, don’t worry,” I said, reassuring him before retuming to my work, unfazed by Candy’s threat.
Families were gathering, and fireworks echoed through the skies back home, while we celebrated joyfully in Medhelanon.
There were many fellow citizens around the globe, so it was easy to feel the festive spirit, even abroad.
In fact, I had a bit to drink during lunch and felt slightly dizzy.
On the way back to the hotel, I saw a couple kissing openly on the street—a sight that made me miss Soren more
than ever.
I couldn’t help but try calling him. The phone rang for a while, and I was just about to hang up when he finally answered.
“Hello, Taylor.”
His voice was surrounded by laughter and cheerful noise. He sounded like he was enjoying himself.
I could hear the crackling of fireworks on his end and asked, curious, “Are you playing with fireworks?”
“Yeap. It’s fine–the Kenway residence is far from the city, and we’ve set them up in the courtyard,” Soren whispered
probably heading back indoors because the fireworks faded into the background.

I had told him earlier that we’d be having a gathering in the afternoon, followed by a half–day break for everyone
to rest.
“We just left. We’re walking back to the hotel now. Have you had your reunion dinner yet?”
With a seven–hour time difference, it was close to 9:00 p.rm back home, though it was still bright and sunny in Medhelanon
“The elders are still eating. I’m with the kids, helping thern play with fireworks. I almost missed your call because of that.”
I was taken aback. “You’re playing with the kids? Shouldn’t you be with the elders?”
“I already spent some time with them,” he replied casually, his tone giving no hint of anything unusual.
It wasn’t until days later that I would learn the truth from Soleil.

Their extended family gathered for the reunion dinner, and the group was so large that they needed two tables to accommodate everyone.
After a few rounds of drinks, the relatives began pressuring Soren to settle down and marry.
Without hesitation, Soren declared that he already had a friend and was ready to marry at any time.

I was still oblivious to what had transpired when Soren asked gently, “Are you feeling lonely there? Should I come keep you company?”
His question snapped me back to the present. “What do you mean? You’re coming here?”
“I’ve still got a week before work starts again, and there’s nothing much for me to do at home.”
My heart raced as wild hopes filled my mind.
Even so, I asked, “How do you usually celebrate the festival? You can’t be feeling bored just this year, right?”
Soren paused.
I could hear him settling into a seat; his voice softening as he answered, “Usually… I’d travel somewhere with Richard and the others. Sometimes, I’d have to work overtime.
“Either way, the week would fly by. But this year… every day has felt like a year since you left for your business trip.”
