The next day
Yvonne, dressed festively, happily got into the car and sat beside Richard.
It was half past nine in the morning when they left, a bit late.
Yesterday, Gavyn and Carol called Richard and said they hoped he could come earlier today.
However, Richard thought about Yvonne’s usual wake–up time and disagreed.
He couldn’t bear to drag Yvonne out of bed, so he asked Stefan to go over and help early in the morning.
Stefan washed up and went to the hotel at seven o’clock. Richard didn’t pick up Yvonne until half past nine.
There’s no hurry. It’s fine to be there by noon, and it’s no use going early, thought Yvonne.

The venue was a top–notch, romance–themed hotel, lavishly decorated. The moment Yvonne walked in, she didn’t know where to look.
The hall was filled with flowers and crystals.
The venue was crowded with people coming and going.
Stefan, who had arrived two and a half hours earlier than them, was the first to see them and walked toward them through the crowd.
“Grandpa, Yvonne.” He stopped beside them and led the way. “Uncle Gavyn and Mr. Jill are waiting for you inside.”
The engagement party was scheduled to start at five o’clock in the afternoon. It was still early.
Apart from the staff and the venue decorators, only members of both the Adler family and the Jill family were at the hotel.
“Grandpa“” someone called from behind.
It was Laura. She walked over with a man, smiling faintly. Her eyes were bright.
It wasn’t until Laura got closer that she noticed Yvonne. She was a little surprised. “Grandpa, you brought Yvonne along, too.”
Laura was the star of the day. She had gotten up early to have her makeup done by a professional team. Her look was a little different from her usual gentle and elder–sister style, leaning more toward a brighter aesthetic.
She smiled and introduced the person next to her to Richard. “Grandpa, this is Rupert Jill.”
Rupert was Laura’s fiancé.
Richard turned to look at Rupert. He looked at him as if he were looking at his son–in–law, which was naturally much sharper and more critical than usual.
That faint but undeniable pressure could only be felt by those involved.
Rupert greeted him, pushing through the pressure, “Hello, Richard. I’m Laura’s boyfriend.”
Richard had known about their relationship for a long time, but it was the first time they had met in person.
Richard wasn’t particularly close to the Jill family. However, he thought of Gavyn and Carol, who loved their daughter as the apple of their eye, and of how they would never let Laura marry Rupert if Rupert wasn’t decent, so he didn’t need to worry.

Looking at Rupert, Richand thought he was indeed a fine young man.
Rupert had regular facial features, and his eyes were quite clear.
Richard nodded slightly, and Rupert secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Richard heard her voice, and his expression softened a little, no longer as serious as before. He smiled.
“By the way, Grandpa, my parents and Mr. Jill are still waiting for you. Let’s go over there,” said Laura.
She was thoughtful. Looking at Yvonne, Laura suggested, “Why don’t we let Yvonne and Widi play for a while? We can call them over for dinner after we’re done talking, okay?”
Richard gently stroked Yvonne’s hair and said, “Why don’t you go play with your sisters for a bit? It’s boring to sit here while we chat. I’m afraid you’ll get restless”
“Mm–hmm?” Yvonne nodded.
Richard was relieved. He let Stefan carry Yvonne away. He followed Laura to the coffee room.
On the way, he asked and found out that Widi had gone to the craft workshop.
It was an art gallery. The flower room was piled high with flowers outside and inside the glass door. The florists were busy arranging flowers.
Across the way was a scented candle shop. Stefan stopped at the door and knocked.
Soon, the door was opened, and the fragrant smell wafted out.
The bright candles inside caught Yvonne’s attention. She exclaimed in awe, her eyes shining.
Stefan looked down at her shining big eyes, and the indifference in his eyes melted a little. “Can you play here?”
Yvonne nodded, overjoyed.
Children of her age just loved to play with new things. It was unstoppable.
Stefan had to go back. He saw Yvonne liked it, so he left her in the care of the craft teacher who opened the door.
The teacher was pleasantly surprised to hold Yvonne and go in. Her voice involuntarily became gentler. “You are so cute. I will take you in to play.”
“Thank you, miss,” said Yvonne.
Upon hearing Yvonne’s polite voice, Widi, pouring wax into the mold, turned her head and glanced. The next moment, her hand trembled, and her head buzzed.
“Why is she here?” She asked the handicraft teacher.
“Mr. Adler asked me to bring her in and to have you look after her.”
Widi even looked behind the teacher but did not see any of the four figures.
‘How come? Weren’t they always inseparable? Why would they let me help take care of Yvonne?‘ thought Widi.
“Fine,” said Widi.

She stood up and pulled a stool over to her side.

After a while, the teacher went to do something else, leaving Widi and Yvonne in the craft workshop. Widi cut the wax base into small pieces and heated them in a glass of water.
She added two drops of essential oil, and the fragrance instantly filled the air.
Then, she went to find a container she liked.
As Widi turned around, she heard Yvonne’s sweet voice, “It smells so good…”
Alarm bells went off in Widi’s head. She quickly turned around, as if something terrible would happen if she were a second late.
She told Yvonne with a serious expression, “You mustn’t drink it. No matter how fragrant it is, you can’t drink it. This isn’t something to drink.”
Yvonne looked up at her in confusion. After two seconds of staring at each other, Yvonne shifted her gaze away first and then looked at the orange candle Widi had made ten minutes ago.
It was round and lifelike.
Yvonne pointed at the orange candle. Her eyes sparkled like tiny stars as she said softly, “Widi, this one looks like a real orange.”
Yvonne was smart and knew those were fake.
However, Widi didn’t know what little Yvonne was thinking. When Widi suddenly heard her words, she became alert, thinking Yvonne wanted to eat it.
She hurried over, took the orange candle in her hand, and put it in a high place, out of Yvonne’s reach. Widi’s expression was a little unnatural as she spoke, “Tell me if you are hungry. Don’t steal it.”
She repeated the important thing three times. “You must tell me if you are hungry. You mustn’t steal and eat it!”
