Instantly, Rupert became confused. He turned to Vic and asked hesitantly, “Is that so?”
Vic gave Rupert a slight nod. He understood Jeremy perhaps because they had a real connection.
Nobody liked to be slighted. Vic’s impression of Rupert improved a lot.
With doubt, Rupert left Jeremy and Vic. He couldn’t help but suspect that he had been too sensitive and made a fuss over nothing.
Thinking, he went to join Laura. Right then, Dawn in a pink dress led a group of young people to approach Rupert. She affectionately held his arm.
“Rupert, why did you talk with those people? Who are they?” Dawn asked.
“Dawn, where did you go?” Rupert quickly came back to his senses. His gaze fell on Dawn’s slightly messy hair, moved two inches downward, and was fixed on Dawn’s eyes.
“Well, I took a walk in the backyard,” Dawn replied casually. She was determined to get the answers to her questions.
“Does Rupert also think that girl chose a wrong dress for his big day?” she wondered.
Then, she began to complain, “Who are they? I saw you talk with them. They are rude. One of them gave me a long and unfriendly stare just because I told the truth.”
Shock rooted Rupert to the spot, and he then looked Dawn in the eyes. “Did you meet with them?” he asked seriously.
Dawn didn’t perceive the change in Rupert’s tone, so she nodded casually. “Yes, not long ago, but I don’t know who they are.”

After a long silence, Dawn looked up at Rupert with tears in her eyes. “Rupert, your engagement won’t be affected, will it?

She didn’t miss any farces when all the Adlers lived under the same roof. They let their guard down before her because she was tight–lipped.
She was anxious to figure out the whole story, but she changed her heart after one glance at Richard behind her and two seconds of hesitation.
It was a rare chance for her to talk with her grandfather. After the banquet, Richard would live in the Holmes‘ again. In other words, Widi couldn’t see Richard again till New Year.
Besides, she had a hunch that he wouldn’t come home for the celebration of the new year.
In her imagination, his life in the Holmes’s was simple and happy as he could play with Yvonne and discipline Jeremy. In addition, there was delicious food and no trouble.
Widi didn’t understand Richard’s choice till she recalled her parents. She would make the same choice if she were Richard.
Her attention was suddenly drawn by a familiar voice when she was lost in thought.
“Richard, why are you sitting here? On my way here, I saw Johan looking for you.” Speaking, Teresa shifted her gaze from
Richard to Widi.
“Widi, what are you doing here? Didn’t you go make candles with Yvonne?” she asked.
Widi mumbled an answer perfunctorily. Teresa didn’t spare much attention to Widi, and she followed Richard away.
