Chapter 59
EMMA

Rose’s eyes have been on me since I entered the training grounds. Even now, as I pull the daggers out of the wooden board they’re stuck into. I c feel her gaze burning through the back and I swallow before turning. She’s standing by the entrance of the pack house with arms crossed to her chest and when our eyes meet, something about her pose changes.

head before turning away, wondering if she knows of the dirty deed that transpired between me and Will last night. What other reason is there for her to be staring at me so hard! But how would she know!
“There’s our new wolf: Ryan’s voice interrupts my thoughts, and I chuckle as he steps next to me. “Had a blast last night?“.
“I did.”
“Feeling any different?” He lifts a brow, and I shake my head as I twirl the dagger in my hand. “I’m not feeling any changes yet. Perhaps it’ll take a
while.”
“Yeah. It usually happens between the first week of your new age, but it’ll come. Don’t stress it.” I hum to his words, and Ryan pats my back before he walks away. As I turn my head, I see Elijah approaching me and I blow a breath. I look away and try to step into the other side, but he catches me before I can and he wraps a hand around my wrist to halt my movement “Emma.”
I put on a smile as I look at him “Hey!”
at I’m not. What are you
“Is it just me, or are you avoiding me?” He questions as he drops the hand from my wrist and I feign ignorance. “What? talking about?”
“Yeah! You haven’t said a word to me since you entered the fields.”
“Busy training”
“That hasn’t stopped you before.” He lifts his arms to his chest as he holds my gaze with an accusatory look, and when I don’t answer, he sighs and takes another step closer. “You remember, don’t you? I didn’t at first but the second I entered the training grounds and saw him, the images came rushing back to me and I got flustered.
“1–why’d you.” I trail off and Elijah nods. “So you do. Then moment if 1 kiss you”

His last words catch me by surprise and my mouth opens. “Elijah.”
“I like you. You have to be truly innocent to not know that by now.” He chuckles and I shake my head. “We’re friends”
“We are, but I do like you, Emma. A lot. You can’t tell?”
“You don’t have to reciprocate my feelings, but please don’t tell me not to like you and phase don’t ask me not to chase you.”
“Elijah” he doesn’t let me speak. He steps forward and presses a kiss on my cheek. When he pulls back, he grins at me before he walks away and I watch him disappear in the crowd of the warriors.
My chest falls with a sigh, and I look down at my daggers. When I look towards the pack house, Rose is no longer standing there and I furrow a brow before joining the rest of the team.
“Hey, you” Bianca bumps her shoulder into mine as I step next to her and I smile. “Hey”
She leans in and whispers near my ear. “Don’t look, but Leo is right behind me and I’m freaking out on the inside.” When she draws back, I do the opposite of what she asks and take a peek at the dark–haired inan. His expression is serious and his jaw is clenched as he stares ahead, his attention focused on what the Beta is telling us. He must sense eyes on him because his gaze shifts to the sile and I swallow a gasp when our eyes meet. When he cocks his head. I clear my throat and look to the front. Bianca nudges me and I move closer to her to whisper, “He’s holding a stick.”
Her eyes grow ligger and 1 chuckle as I turn my head. Ryan speaks a while longer before we separate into teams, and I hug Bianca before I depart
“Heard you turned eighteen Rio is the first to speak when I step before the rest of the team, and I resist the u something better to do than monitor me!”

He smirks “And you’re getting mouthy This would be more fun than I thought. The sound of his laugh irritates me and I ignore him as I step next to the only other girl in the group.

“Emma. You’re with me.” Rio calls my name loudly and I look around to see everyone else has a pair. I try to turn to the girl but she turns away before I can speak and when she joins with the other guy, I sigh and look at Rio. He wriggles a brow at me, almost as though he’s challenging me and I grip my daggers tight before closing the space between us.
“Missed me?” He utters as he takes his position, and I scoff. “You’re the last person on earth I’d miss” He opens his mouth to say something, but I don’t want to hear more of his voice, so I attack. He dodges just barely as I wave the dagger I’m holding in my right hand to the side of his face.
“Too slow.” He clicks his tongue and my chest heaves as I step back. I take my position and turn the daggers downward as I grip them by the end. I flex my wrists, then attack him. He ducks every move I make and when I try to hit him in the middle, he grips my wrist and yanks me forward..
“You’re quite “I lift my other hand and Rio’s words end with a hiss as I swipe the dagger across his chest. He stares down at his ripped clothing. and when he looks up, his darkened eyes threaten me, but I refuse to be intimidated, so I curve my hand again. He grabs it before I can hit his face and his breath caresses my face as he says, “Not so fast, Princess”
My nose flares. “Don’t fucking call me-
“Or what?” He shoves me back and throws his dagger in the air. He grabs it midair and when he makes a gesture with two fingers–telling me to come at him–1 attack. He calculates my moves even before I reach him. I grunt as he stops both movements of my hands and in the blink of an eye, he has my hands held over my chest with one hand while the other holds a dagger to my neck. He spins me and when I feel his front pressing to my back. I’m reminded of the last time in the woods. I remember how vulnerable I was. How he had me beneath him with zero idea what he thought to do
With the annoyance gurgling inside me, 1 twist in his hold and I don’t know where it comes from, but I feel a power surging through my palms and when I push Ryan’s shoulder, he goes flying back
My jaw drops and gasps erupt around me as I watch him fly in the air. He’s almost hitting the tree at the end of the fields when he shifts into his wolf.
Heads turn in my directon and my chest rises and falls rapidly as I lift my hands. There’s a tingling feeling in my palms that’s slowly spreading towards my wrists and I’m dropping my hands when I feel a sudden snap. A scream tears from my mouth at the pain that shoots through my legs and I fall to my knees. The sounds of bones snapping echo around me, and I grip the floor as my back arches.
“Ahhh!” Tears fill my eyes and my breathing turns heavy. I can’t move and a pain like no other–a pain I’ve never felt before and one that spreads through every bone in my body–shoots through me. “Help. Please.”
“Beta Ryan!“–
Don’t touch her! She’s transforming”
“Ahh!” My head drops and tears stream down my face as another bone pops in my arm. It leaves my arm looking disjointed and I fall to my side. “Please. Help me. I can’t I can’t.”
“Emma! Emma, try to endure it, sweetheart. Your wolf is starting to emerge, and each bone in your body will break. It’ll be painful, but there’s nothing you can do. There’s nothing anyone can do until- the sound of my cry rises over Ryan’s words and my body slams to the ground as my legs twist in an angle i never thought they could.
Everyone’s gathered around me watching–I can see them through my blurred vision. When I try to lift my body, another bone pops and 1 fall back. Sweats cover my skin as I lie on the ground, my bones popping and snapping back into place every other second.
After a while, it stops and I move to my fours. A tingling sensation spreads across my neck and my lips part as I feel my fangs growing. My nails dig into the grass as my claws shoot out, and a roar leaves my throat as I lift my head.

“Emma!” I see Elijah rushing towards me and gasps followed by murmurs booms through the air ay Elijah is thrown back by a force he doesn’t see
“Did you see that?”
“What’s happening?

“She un’t shifted. Does this mean she has ng wolf?!
I don’t think that’s it. You saw her fangs and claws. And you heard her hours snapping?
“Could she be a witch, perhaps? A witch and a wolf?”
The buzzes die down and silence settles around with no one uttering a word. It isn’t until I turn my head and catch his gaze that I realize he’s the

But he doesn’t do it. He doesn’t move. He just watches from afar and I’m uncertain if the tears that stream down my face again are from the pain that floods through me, the ache deep in my bones, or the hurt in my heart.
“Emina.” Someone calls, but I don’t look. I don’t remove my eyes from his until I feel my body being lifted. “Hold onto me, darling. You’re alright. You’re okay.”
My head falls to his chest, and I shut my eyes as he adjusts me in his hold before he starts to walk. But it isn’t the name of the one holding me that rings in my ears. It’s his.
“Will.” I whisper before I lose consciousness.
