Chapter 60
EMMA
I’m running through the dark..
ing into takes me and my pants are heavy in the air as my steps
That familiar frustration of not knowing what’s chasing me nor where I’m running grow increasingly quicker.
I throw my head over my shoulder to take a peek and there’s nothing but a darkness–one that sends a chill down my spine from how eerie in
seems
A wince leaves my mouth as I trip over something I don’t see before I can turn my head and my chest slams into the ground. What feels like mud splashes to my face and I groan before lifting my body off the ground. I gasp when everywhere abruptly turns white and rise to my feet. I move around in circles, my lips parted at the sudden glow.
“Hello?” My voice echoes back to me and I step forward, but it doesn’t feel as though I’ve moved. There’s no way in the whiteness surrounding me and it’s as though I’m trapped in a circle.
Still, I keep moving. I stride across. Only to end up in the same spot–or rather nowhere, because every inch of the spa

Hello? Is there anyone here! Someone? ANYONE?” I scream as the beats of my heart pick race and I’m twirling around when I notice a glow from afar. It shines so brightly that it’s almost blinding despite being far away from me and I use a hand to cover my face from the brightness.
When the light stops penetrating, 1 drop my hand and my eyes widen at the figure before me.
Who’s that?
I take a hesitant step forward. Then another. And another. Yet I don’t appear to be any closer to the one before me.
“Who are you!” 1 grind out as I keep my eyes on the shadow and the head raises.
“Daughter of Selene. The voice feels familiar, and so do the words that drift through the light.
“You are you are.” my mouth opens and I look around me when my body glides forward with no movements from me. What seems impossible becomes possible as I stand before the figure and she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. She’s unreal. It’s incomprehensible for someone like that to exist with the white braided long hair that cascades down her chest, and the golden eyes with specs of ice around them. She’s in a white dress similar to mine–but while mine is dirtied with mud, hers is clean and sparkling. The dress engulfs her being with sleeves swallowing her arms and the hem covering her feet. Her skin is so glassy that I can almost see my reflection in it. She doesn’t seem human, and fear grips me as I slowly raise my head.
“Who are what are y
you?” The words leave my mouth in a whisper and she smiles. “You have a rough road ahead of you, Daughter of Selene. They’re coming.”
“What
-Your powers have emerged and they know that too, so they’ll be here soon. You have to prepared. You have to be readied for the darkness that’s about to take over. You have to be trained to use your gifts. You have to know the extent of your powers. YOU MUST BE PREPARED! The roar of her voice sounds distant, and I stagger back when she suddenly vanishes. Everything turns to a blur–the white swirling around in a circle and I–

“Emma!” My shoulders are gripped as I lift off the best, drenched in cold sweat, and my heavy breathing circles me as I blink into space. After a while, I turn my head and Ryan is sitting next to me with arms wrapped around my shoulders and concern shining in his eyes.
“Emma” Are you okay?” He questions as he edges closer and I give a curt nod. “I don’t, I was
“Nightmare?” He lifts a brow and my chest falls with a sight. I use a hand to wipe my face before adjusting, and Ryan’s hands fall from my shoulders. “What happened?” I ask as I look around the room. “Why are you-

“You were out for almost two hours. You shifted. Strangely.” Ryan provides, and I arch a brow “Strangely?”
“No wolf has ever shified without the light of the full moon–at least that’s what I’ve always known it to be. And you didn’t complete your
Transformation
“Is that possible!”
Ryan sighs and jerks his head. “I don’t know. It’s my first time seeing something like this. You have your claws and your fangs? And your wolf?”
“I don’t know,” I mutter as I lift my hands. I stare at the nails, but there’s nothing unusual about them. There’s no discomfort in my gums like earlier and I can’t hear that voice that was in my head. I don’t believe I have my powers, and I’m unsure why. When a wolf shifts, that’s the end of it. Could it be because I didn’t complete my transformation like Ryan said?
“Do you feel different?” Ryan’s voice brings me out of my thoughts and I shake my head as I close and reopen my palms There’s still a tingling feeling there, but it’s not as potent as it was on the fields.
“Alright. You should get some rest before we— My head snaps to Ryan when he pauses and when I lift a brow, he pats my shoulder before rising to his feet. “I have to go. I’m needed. Are you sure you’re okay! You don’t need anything?”
“I’m good. Thank you.” I throw him a smile and he mirrors it before he turns and walks out of the room.
At the click of the door, I fall against the pillow with my hand lifted in the air. I felt a surge of power in it just a while ago and now there’s nothing. I didn’t shift into my wolf despite the way my bones snapped and I can’t..
“That’s because you’re different”
I drop my hand and push off the pillow as the words echo in my head.
‘Are you looking for me!‘
“Who are you?” I say, unable to keep off the tremble in my voice as I gaze across the space of my room.
‘Shouldn’t you know that?‘
“Are you.”
‘Silver. Your woll:
My brows furrow, “How’s that possible? I didn’t….‘
Turn into an enormous wolf in the middle of a field? Yeah, I’m aware of that. But you have your powers now. And you can hear me?
“Silver,” I repeat with a slight smile, and I hear her purr in my head. A chuckle leaves my mouth, and I push back against the headboard. “What do you mean by I’m different! Silver! Silver?” I’m met with only silence and sigh as I stare at the ceiling. Though she remains quiet, I can feel her presence and as my thoughts jumbles together, I wrap my arms around my chest at the image that pops in my head.
Who was that? And what did she mean by they’re coming? She said they sensed my powers, but how
Goddess. This is giving me a damn headache.
I turn on my side and grab the pillow. As my lashes flutter, I’m reminded of the last minute of my semi–transformation in the fields. How he stood there and only watched while I writhed in pain. He wouldn’t move. He knew I wanted him to–he had to–but he didn’t move
I gulp through the tightness of my throat as my eyes shut and I’m almost drifting into sleep when I hear a howde
My eyes open and I climb out of bed. I move to the windows and my eyes narrow when my gaze runs in the fields. I look towards the entrance the pack house and wolves are running in.

1 stroll down the hallway and climb down the stairs. I’m walking out of the pack house when someone is carried by on a stretcher, and my lips when I see the blood he’s covered in before he’s moved out of my view.
(hat’s going on?” I ask the warrior standing close and his brows are creased as he watches the injured being carried in. “Attack at the border.” An attack! I thought that stopped.
“I don’t think they’d survive it.” The guy adds, and I look across the back. There are quite a lot in stretchers and they do seem fatally wounded. I follow the line and I look around when I arrive at the infirmary belund the pack house.

I enter and freeze on my feet when I catch sight of him. He’s standing before lan with his arms crossed to his chest and his jaw is clenched as lan speaks to him. He’s turned away, so he doesn’t see me, but lan does.

“Emma” lan’s call of my name causes Will to turn and my heart squeezes when our eyes meet. He keeps his eyes on me for a while before he looks away and I swallow the lump in my throat, lower my gaze and blow a breath before walking to them.
“What are you doing here? You should be resting.” Will asks without looking my way when I reach them and 1 ignore him. I turn to Tan, who grins at me. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I heard of your transformation. Are you feeling alright?”
“I am. I saw them, and they seemed extremely injured. It’s why I’m here,” I tell him and lan looks at Will, who refuses to look at me.
“Is there something.” my voice trails off as I look between the Alpha and the healer. After a few minutes of silence, lan says, “We were wrong to think that was the end.”
“What?”
“It was a Kanima attack, Emma” He explains, and my jaw drops “Whatever we thought we ended—it’s back”
