Chapter 44
“Hugo, what’s the deal outside? Why’s everyone talking about you-“Jasper’s voice came in, and he barged into the office, but it was too late
On the long table, Hugo had Evalina’s hands pinned above her head, his moves dominant.
Jasper paused and then hurried to open the door. “Oops, my bad I didn’t see anything”
Hugo’s face was like a cold winter day. He cursed under his breath and finally let Evalina go.
Evalina, blushing hard, glanced at Jasper who was smirking and dodging, then glared at Hugo. She slapped him hard and stormed out of the meeting room
Tvalina…” It was so hard that Hugo’s cheek stung. He couldn’t believe she had the nerve to hit him now
Jasper walked in. “Dang. Evalina’s got some guts. Your face is all swollen, he teased, pointing at Hugo’s cheek.
“Great. I’ve been too soft on her lately! Hugo rubbed his cheek, fuming.
But whoa, Hugo, didn’t know you were into this kinda stuff Getting frisky in the office… quite a rush, huh?” Jasper smirked.
As soon
soon as Jasper finished, office supplies started flying at him from the desk.
Hugo found himself already turned on and felt frustrated. “Maybe it’s been too long since I’ve been with a woman. The last time was that weird night with Olive, but I was so drunk I didn’t remember a thing.
Evalina hit the road, but by then, the office was all aflutter. People were chatting
“You hear about that chick who showed up claiming she’s Mr. Hayes’s wife?”
“Yeah, everyone thought she was full of it, but Mr. Hayes came down himself and took her outta here, another joined in.
“No way, what “bout the lady we saw on the news a few days back? someone else pitched in.
“Can there be two Mrs. Hayeses?” they all pondered.
Olive had just stepped outta the Hayes crib when she caught wind of the office gossip. She was so mad she almost chucked her phone. Evalina had the nerve to go to the company to see Hugo? That bitch just wouldn’t give up, she thought.
But Olive glanced back at the Hayes mansion and felt hopeful. Even though Julie was a tough nut to crack, Olive’s persistence paid off. She’d brought over a bunch of goodies, and Julie was all smiles, now seeing Olive in a whole new light.
Olive had been scheming for a while. Since Bramwell wasn’t too fond of her, she figured she’d start with someone else in the family. And it turned out to be a smart move.
She thought, How could Evalina compete? My family isn’t as high–faluting as the Hayes family, but we still have some clout. Evalina’s family, though, is pretty much down and out. As long as I totally win Hugo’s heart, she wouldn’t stand a chance.
She took a ser to think, then hit Hugo up on the phone. “Hugo, my stomachi’s been acting up… she said her voice soft.
“Acting up? What’s the deal?” he asked, sounding a bit gruff.
Olive was caught off guard. Why was Hugo so crabby? “I dunno, I just haven’t been able to eat much lately. I’ve been feeling a bit nauseous,” she explained.
Hugo paused for a beat “Wait for me,” he said.
Olive couldn’t help but smirk. Maybe she had misjudged earlier. As soon as he heard she wasn’t feeling well, he rushed back no questions asked. He still had a soft spot for her.
