After Rebirth, Her Light Pierces the Darkness Ch 3

Chapter 3 The Inheritance

“Yes, Naomi is just a 20-something-year-old ‘child’. All she did was administer the wrong medication which could’ve killed your beloved stepdaughter that you ‘painfully searched for for many years’, Aunt Chambers. Didn’t you just say to the police that the law is the law? And yet now you want them to overlook a crime?” Miah stated in a cold, frank tone.

Miah’s words made her father, Dylan Sampson, who had been standing silently to the side all this while, frown.

“How can you speak to your elders this way, Miah? Where are your manners!” he scolded.

“As someone who was abandoned in a desolate countryside since birth, I’m lucky enough to have had enough food to eat. Why would I care about manners? You didn’t raise me, so why are you asking about it?” Miah shot back.

“You!” Dylan was so angry he looked like he might have a brain aneurysm.

He raised his hand, intending to beat Miah, but was stopped by Grandma Sampson. After all, Miah still had her use. “That’s enough! Let’s all go home first since she’s fine. Stop making a fool out of yourself here!”

Grandma Sampson looked at Miah. “My country bumpkin granddaughter is still of great use, so I must treat her well,” she thought.

It was with Grandma Sampson’s words that everyone present remembered why they had been searching for Miah in the first place.

Miah knew what everyone was thinking when they returned to the family villa.

At this point of time in her previous life, the Sampsons’ were in a dire financial situation.

Their plan for saving themselves was to marry her up, and the targetted groom was none other than the temperamental Bobby Gallagher who was rumoured to have been crippled.

Her father and grandmother were in favour of the marriage, but Holly and Eliza were afraid that she would treat them unfavourably after she married into the Gallagher family. Hence, they planned on ruining the public’s opinion of her so that Bobby would marry Eliza instead.

However, Bobby only had eyes for her and never even looked in Eliza’s direction.

Bobby Gallagher…

Miah felt a sharp pain in her heart at the thought of his name.

She didn’t agree to the marriage in her previous life as she thought it was only beneficial to her.

Bobby’s parents also didn’t approve of the marriage after the fiasco about her “seducing a doctor” made the news.

Later on, after she had left the Sampsons and joined the mysterious organization, she was gullibly moved by Jason’s persistent efforts in courting her.

Little did she know Bobby’s feelings towards her were genuine.

And that the “gentlemanly” Jason was a deadly scumbag!

As Miah was lost in thought, Grandma Sampson put on a saccharine expression as she put her plan into motion.

“Although we’ve been separated for many years, you are still a Sampson. If the family were to ever be in trouble, you can’t just sit back and do nothing, can you?”

Miah merely smiled in response and leaned back lazily on the sofa as she quietly listened to her grandmother spout bullsh*t, having grown accustomed to this family of hypocrites.

“Bobby, the Gallagher family heir, has recently lost the use of his legs due to an accident. Although that’s the case, his appearance and capability are top-notch. Most importantly, he is the eldest son of the family!”

Grandma Sampson’s eyes lit up when she started talking about the Gallagher family.

“As for what kind of family the Gallaghers are, well not even a 100 Sampsons combined can compare to how outstanding they are!

“As someone who grew up in the countryside and didn’t receive any formal education, it’s truly a great blessing for you to be able to marry such a man!

“And once you have, you’ll be given 200 thousand dollars in dowry. You’ll live happily ever after!”

Miah drummed her fingers languidly on the armrest of the sofa as she bluntly replied, “If I remember correctly, Grandmother, the Gallaghers will provide 50 million to us as financial support if I were to marry into their family, correct?

“And you’re only going to give me 200 thousand out of the 50 million?

“How can I agree to such an unfair exchange? Do you think my head is only filled with sh*t?”

Everyone in the villa was stunned by Miah’s words.

Even if she didn’t have a proper upbringing, how could she speak this way to her elders?

Not to mention as someone who grew up in the countryside, that amount should be an astronomical figure to her.

They all thought she would be overjoyed by the promise of 200 thousand dollars, so what exactly did she have in mind?

“Well then, Miah, since you seem to have something in mind, why don’t you tell us what it is?”

“I want the money that my mom left to me—10 million dollars, nothing more nothing less.”

“Additionally, the 50 million that will be given by the Gallaghers will be used to purchase company shares under my name.”

“From today on, Sampson Group will belong to me and Bobby Gallagher, and not you penniless Sampsons!”

Hearing this, Grandma Sampson was so upset she could almost faint.

Dylan’s face had also turned as red as a tomato. He immediately pounded the table, exclaiming, “10 million? That money is for your sister to study abroad! What kind of sister are you!”

“Miah, your sister’s grades each year are among the best, and she is often at the top of her grade! All of her teachers have said that it would be a waste if she doesn’t study abroad!” Holly anxiously said.

Eliza also looked anxious, but Miah remained as cool as ice.

Miah scoffed mentally. “Selling off the eldest daughter in order to pay off their debt and still wanting to use 10 million dollars to send the youngest overseas to build a career when the family is on the brink of bankruptcy.

“How ironic.

“Such double standards and biased treatment were enough elements to write a cliché, dramatic tragedy.

“Why in the world was past-life me so polite to them?” she asked, concluding her inner monologue.

Then saying out loud, “Don’t be mistaken, Father. My mother left me 10 million dollars as an inheritance. Regardless of how brilliant Eliza’s studies are, she should be spending her own parents’ hard-earned money if she wants to further her studies.

“If her father doesn’t have any more money and her mother doesn’t know how to earn some, then she should go out and earn it herself. What right does she have to spend my mother’s money?”

Holly feigned shock upon hearing this. “How could you say that Miah, she’s your sister! You’re kin!”

“No, we’re not. I am my mother’s child whereas Eliza is a b*stard child.”

“Vile creature!”

Unable to bear it further, Dylan raised his hand intending to slap her. However, Miah blocked it and immediately stood up; her strength was far greater than his.

“Don’t think you can beat me like a dog just because you’re my father, Dylan Sampson!” she declared, raising her voice.

“I’m a human being and my marriage is my business! If you don’t agree to my terms then I won’t marry! And if I don’t, we’ll just await the family’s downfall and die together!”

“If I go down, I’m taking you all with me!” she mentally proclaimed.

The Sampsons were taken aback by Miah’s resolute attitude.

They had thought that a child like her, who grew up in the countryside, would be utterly complaint after being reunited with her family.

No one expected that she would demand 10 million fiercely like a lion!

Miah didn’t even know that her mother had left her that money in her previous life.

It wasn’t until Eliza told her the truth just as she was about to perish in the warehouse fire, only then did she know that the results of her mother’s hard work had also been seized by the despicable mother-daughter duo!

Back then, she had felt a pain in her heart as though it had been stabbed with a knife.

But it was already too late!

Not only was she unable to avenge her mother, but she also lost her life…

Something like this definitely couldn’t happen again in this life!

Holly immediately stepped in to mediate the situation after seeing how it had escalated. “Actually, according to the will, a condition needs to be met in order to obtain the money.”
