Chapter 5 The Proposal
“It’s your first time in Ditto Capital, you can use this to buy whatever you need.
“If the Sampsons treat you poorly, just use Jessica.”
Pausing, he looked deeply at her before continuing, “There’s no limit.”
Miah’s fingertips trembled slightly. It wasn’t that she was rejecting him earlier, but rather she had yet to recover from the shock of the memory from her previous life.
Regaining her senses, she took Jessica from him, stepped forward, and placed it back in his hand.
“I don’t need it.”
Bobby’s expression turned even gloomier. “Why?” he asked out loud.
“Does she dislike me that much? So much so that she isn’t even willing to spend my money?” he wondered.
Shaking her head, Miah smiled at him. “Isn’t it better to ask you to accompany me if I ever want to buy anything?”
Suprise flashed through Bobby’s eyes.
“She…would take the initiative to ask me to accompany her?
“Does she have remember?” he wondered.
He looked her in the eyes.
Miah’s eyes were clear; her eyelashes fluttered lightly when she blinked.
Paired with the scent of the blooming flowers, it was a beautiful sight.
Bobby’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed involuntarily.
“Will Mr. Gallagher go shopping with me if he has the time?”
“I would be glad to. That being said, this card is prepared specially for you. Keep it.”
Miah could feel that he was resolute on this matter despite his gentle tone.
Thus, she took back Jessica without further protest.
“Well then Mr. Gallagher, please await my call.”
“I will,” Bobby responded with a gentle, charming smile.
Miah turned and left with her bag; her feet felt light.
Bobby Gallagher really did like her.
Coincidentally, she was also willing to marry him.
At the Sampson family villa.
Eliza told Holly everything that had happened today upon returning home.
“What? Miah handed in her paper after half an hour?”
“It seems that Miah really is a good-for-nothing.”
“There’s no need to wait until the results are out, I’ll ask for the money from your father directly.”
However, Eliza was still worried. “But what if she could answer all the questions that’s why she was able to hand in the paper early? The news has already said that children from the countryside excel at their studies.”
Holly contemplated for a moment, thinking there was no harm in being cautious. “Alright,” she said as she glanced out the villa’s Usmary windows at Miah, who was on the lawn outside. “Go and test her, see how much she knows.”
Thus, Eliza headed off with a workbook in hand.
Miah was currently sitting cross-legged on the lawn, basking in the sun.
She thought back to how she didn’t see any sunlight for a long period of time when she was researching and developing a reactor at the military base as she had to be deep underground.
Therefore, she was greedily enjoying the sunshine now.
However, it was at this moment that a grating voice interrupted her wonderful enjoyment.
“Miah! Mom asked me to help you with your studies!”
Miah rolled her eyes behind her sunglasses.
“What could you possibly teach me, small fry?
“You were probably still playing with dirt when I was already doing stochastic matrix and kernel density estimation exercises,” she thought, annoyed.
However, on the surface, she appeared calm.
“What are you going to teach me?”
“The trigonometric functions in this ###Chapter are very important, have you learned them? Our teacher already said that this is high school-level knowledge.”
Miah took a sideways glance at Eliza’s workbook and said indifferently without a smile, “What’s there to learn?”
Eliza held her breath, looking as though she might implode. It was clear that she had automatically assumed that Miah didn’t have the right learning attitude.
“Don’t you dare embarrass the Sampson family name now that you’ve returned to us. This isn’t the countryside where you can just spend the whole day harvesting grain or herding cows!
“What are you going to do for future exams if you don’t even know the trigonometric functions?” Eliza said, raising her voice.
“What does it have to do with you?” Miah retorted.
Eliza was so angry that her face had flushed.
The workbook crinkled as she clenched her hands and angrily yelled, “Don’t think I didn’t notice you handing in your exam paper after 30 minutes today!
“You don’t know anything at all, do you? I’m going to tell Dad that you’ll just squander the 10 million if it were given to you! Don’t even think about competing with me for it!”
Eliza then walked away in a huff, thinking that the matter was over.
“This Miah is indeed a good-for-nothing!
“Forget about her having poor grades, she doesn’t even want to improve herself at all!
“My mom and I have overestimated her!” Eliza thought, fuming.
As for Miah, she merely sipped her tea leisurely.
She then made a video call once Eliza was gone.
The girl on video was wearing a pair of sunglasses. She looked calm, composed, and laid back.
“Have you released the news I told you to?” Miah asked.
“Yes, Boss, don’t worry. Eastside’s senior management will soon suspect that you are the internationally famous S.”
S.
S was well-known all over the internet as a mysterious computer genius.
Having been dubbed as the greatest brain among mankind, S was the top expert that was highly sought after by various countries’ governments.
“Okay, don’t let them find out too early,” Miah replied indifferently.
She would make good use of the time she had to toy with Eliza to her heart’s content.
…
That night during dinner in the dining room.
The atmosphere was tense as the family ate together.
It was unknown what Holly had said to Dylan, as he had begun persuading Miah to give up her inheritance.
“Your teacher called in the afternoon, she said that Eliza’s results were really good.”
Holly took advantage of this opportunity to take over the conversation.
“Miah, darling, she said that according to the person who marked it, your sister answered the questions exceptionally well this time. She only got a few major questions wrong towards the end, and if nothing else goes wrong, she’ll probably be the top scorer.
“It really is a pity of your sister doesn’t study abroad when she has such good grades.”
Miah wiped her mouth expressionlessly. “Then did she say anything about my results?”
Holly hesitated briefly. “She said that marking is still underway, so yours probably hasn’t been marked yet,” Holly responded, faking a polite smile.
It was true that her exam paper hadn’t been marked yet.
However, everyone, including her teacher, automatically assumed that Miah must be a bad student, given how she had grown up in the countryside and in addition, she handed in her paper so early.
Then let’s wait for my results before any further discussion.” Miah was very calm.
She was too lazy to argue, but Dylan slammed his hand down on the table.
“The 10 million must be used for Eliza to study abroad.” He declared loudly.
“On what basis!” Miah shot back, throwing her cutlery aside.
“On the basis that the money is a shared asset between your mother and I as husband and wife!”
Miah immediately stood up and flipped the table over with a crash upon hearing his words.
The exquisite dishes on the table were instantly smashed to pieces.
Everyone at the table screamed in fear as they dodged out of the way to avoid the broken glass. Dylan pointed a finger at her and roared, “Wh-What are you doing! Are you rebelling!”
Miah kept a sneer on her face as she replied,
“You cheated on your marriage and you still have the nerve to bring up the matter of shared assets?
“And what right do you have to call yourself my mother’s husband?”
Her two sentences were like a lethal blow.
Dylan was so angry he looked as though he might explode.
He continued to point at Miah and scold her, but she merely turned a deaf ear to him.
Glancing at the mess all over the floor, she couldn’t finish her meal either.
“Right now the person that Bobby Gallagher wants is me and not Eliza, I am the family’s only hope of salvation.
“Even if you don’t want to, you should at least act like a person who is begging for help, shouldn’t you?
“As I’ve said, you will give me my mother’s money and nothing less. I definitely won’t allow the fruits of her life’s labour to fall into the hands of this shameless mother and daughter!”
With that, Miah swaggered upstairs.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
News of the heated conflict at the Sampson family villa soon reached Bobby’s ears.
At the centre of Shutol area in Ditto capital was a towering building that overlooked the city.
Sat in a wheelchair in the conference room was a man in a suit and leather shoes, lost in thought.
He didn’t expect that the Sampsons would bully Miah not even half a day after he had parted ways with her at Eastside’s campus.
How could his woman suffer in such a manner?
“Emilio.”
“Mr. Gallagher.” The man named Emilio Merritt acknowledged.
“Make the necessary preparations, I’m going to the Sampsons’ villa tomorrow
“βto propose!”
His last two words were said with a firm resolution but were also filled with an endless yearning.
