Fortunately it’s you
Chapter 1
The car crash left my adoptive brother
believing I’d lost my memory.
He pointed to his best friend, Lucas, and
teased me, “This is your boyfriend.”
In my past life, I exposed my adoptive
brother’s lie, yet I still clung to him.
I ultimately died a gruesome death in the
mental hospital where he secretly confined
- me.
Three years after my death, a despondent
Lucas committed suicide at my grave.
Then, I opened my eyes again, back on the
day of the accident.
This time, I opened my arms wide toward
Lucas, “Honey, hug me.”
My adoptive brother, accidentally crushed the
medicine bowl in his hand.
The man before me, his eyes red–rimmed.
<
silently pulled me into his embrace: “Yeah.”

The hospital room reeked of antiseptic.
My adoptive brother, Jason, and his best
friend, Lucas, stood side by side before me.
My head throbbed, a splitting headache
making the scene seem unreal.
“Where am I? Who am I?”
Jason, thinking I’d lost my memory, quickly
pointed to Lucas beside him, his eyes full of
playful mockery, “You’re my sister, Jessica,
and this is your boyfriend, Lucas.”
I looked at Lucas in shock.
The man’s sharp eyes drooped, tinged with a
hint of melancholy.
He deliberately avoided my gaze, yet his eyes
lingered on me.
It held a certain forbearance.
Just like in my past life.
