I was about to go to my room when I heard
the door open.
Ethan had just gotten off work, but Linda and
Lily were with him.
“You’re back?” Ethan looked surprised.
Linda nodded politely to me, then went into
my room.
I frowned as she casually closed my door.
Ignoring my belongings still piled in the living
room.
I looked at Ethan.
Ethan hesitated, seeming to remember
something, “Uh, Linda’s house leaked the
other day. so she’s staving here for a couple.
Chapter 2
So, you could clear out my things and give
them to someone else without my
permission?
He paused, seeing my silence, and continued,
“By the way, move your things to my room.
You can share a room with me for now.”
Ethan opened his bedroom door as he spoke.
“Where are your books? Why so few things?”
He looked at a small bundle I had casually
placed on his bedside table and pursed his
lips.
Whatever.
After all, this was his house, what he did was
none of my business.
“The college entrance exams are over,
keeping the books is useless, so I sold them,”
I explained calmly.
Ethan frowned, “Even though the exams are
over, those books might be useful later. Why
did you sell them?”
I pursed my lips and said nothing.
Seeing my silence, he said,
“By the way, what did your aunt and uncle
say?” Ethan took the bundle from my hand.
I hesitated, “I had someone look at the dates,
they’re not auspicious. We’ll talk about it
later.”
This was our agreement.
I would use this excuse to delay things, and
explain the situation when I left.
Ethan didn’t seem suspicious, just nodded
faintly, muttering, “Looks like we have to look
for a new date.”
Then he went out.
He said he was going to cook and let me rest
for a while.
I looked at the marriage report he’d already
written on the desk by the window.
Only the date column was blank.
…..
When I came to my senses and looked away
from the marriage report to offer help, I heard
the soft voices of three people outside.
A man’s low voice, a woman’s sweet voice,
and a child’s cute voice.
I silently sat back down.
Now that I’d broken off the engagement, it
wasn’t appropriate to live together anymore.
Especially in the same room.
But I only had four days left, and I couldn’t
find a suitable place to rent.
I thought for a moment, maybe I could sleep
on the floor in the living room after dinner.
