Chapter 10
The next time I saw Jasper was on my wedding day with Hextor.[]
As my bridal car headed toward the chapel, a few familiar figures flashed by outside the window.[]
Jasper, Finn, and Griffin looked less polished than before but still maintained their aloof demeanor. Doria was clutching at Jasper’s pant leg, desperately begging for something. When he ignored her, she turned to Finn, who also wouldn’t look at her.[]
Even Griffin, who had always spoiled her the most, pushed her away in disgust.[]
With tears streaming down her face, Doria tried her usual victim act, but none of them softened this time.]
I didn’t recognize them at first, until Jasper turned and stared blankly in my direction.
Our eyes met for an instant before I coldly looked away without a second glance.[]
After our engagement, Dad had offered the three of them a generous settlement. They’d rejected it, insisting they would repay him for “raising them all these years.”
I had to laugh at that. Over the years, they’d cost the Montclairs millions at minimum.[]
What exactly did they plan to repay it with now?]
As the million–dollar fireworks display concluded, Hextor led me by the hand down the red carpet.
The crowd erupted in congratulations. Someone handed me an unsigned letter.
One glance at the familiar handwriting told me who it was from.[]
I dropped it to the ground without changing expression, letting guests trample it underfoot.[]
Hextor watched me with a subtle smile the entire time. As the ceremony neared its end, he placed a document before me:[]
“I voluntarily transfer all assets under my name to my wife, without reservation or regret.“[]
The crowd gasped. Even I stared in disbelief.
Hextor’s smile remained gentle. “Don’t you want to marry me?“[]
I nodded wordlessly, too stunned to speak.
Finally, Hextor guided my hand to sign my name on the document.]
“I swear,” he said, “I will hold nothing back from the woman I’ll spend my life with.“[]
Everyone knew Hextor meant every word.]
After the wedding, Hextor proved quite thoroughly that making babies definitely didn’t require medical intervention.[]
Within three years, we had two children–a boy and a girl.]
Concerned about the pain I’d endured during childbirth, Hextor voluntarily got a vasectomy.[]
Dad mentioned that Jasper and the others had failed spectacularly in their business venture, losing everything and fleeing overseas.[]
Apparently, Doria had been sent back to her rural hometown, married off to some local guy for a bride price. Word was her marriage wasn’t going well.]
I listened with complete indifference, unmoved by any of it.]]
It was only when I saw Hextor walking toward me, holding our children’s hands, that my face truly lit up with happiness.[]
This man standing before me–he was my future, my forever.[]
