Chapter 11 Ensuring His Survival For A Month
“No need! It’s just a variety show, it won’t kill me. Besides, it’s on a deserted island. Think of it as a vacation, and don’t worry, it won’t affect your condition. Besides, I promised you wouldn’t die within a month, and I keep my word,” Gabrielle said.
She picked up her medicine box and turned to head upstairs.
Jonathan stood there, watching as she picked up her medicine box and sauntered away with an air of nonchalance.
After a long while, he finally withdrew his gaze.
“Mr. Zechman, I’ve already made arrangements for the projects Zachary has been dealing with recently. I assure you, he will be swamped with work,” Keiran reported upon approaching, iPad in hand.
“Mm–hmm,” grunted Jonathan in a hoarse voice as he raised his wrist to check the time.
This was the time when his poison would act up daily, but there was no sign of the usual pain, nor was there any rotting of his skin. He held his breath, hands clasped behind his back, and walked toward the courtyard.
In response, Keiran hurriedly followed behind him.
“Any luck finding out about the other matters?” Jonathan asked in a hoarse voice.
Keiran quickly responded, saying, “I checked. Mrs. Zechman was only brought back to Drocver by the Seavers family seven months ago. She hasn’t been here before.
After she initially went missing, she was found and taken in by a monastery. She didn’t leave the mountain the monastery was on before returning to the Seavers family,” Keiran reported softly.
According to his investigations, it appeared that Gabrielle had nothing to do with the poison found on Jonathan. Yet she diagnosed it at a glance and even managed to keep it under control.
Could it really be due to her excellent medical skills? Or is there something unknown at play here?
“Should we continue investigating?” Keiran asked anxiously.
Gabrielle had now become part of the family, even though they hadn’t officially married or held a wedding banquet. Their relationship was delicate. If she ever found out that Jonathan had been investigating her past, it could lead to an awkward situation.
“There’s no need to continue the investigation for now. If I’m truly destined to die, then so be it. However, I swear that those who dare to harm the Zechman family behind my back will be all exposed before my death,” Jonathan stated in a chilling tone.

“Yes,” Keiran acknowledged, his mood grim as ever.
Jonathan was exceptionally intelligent. By the age of fifteen, he had already earned two doctorate degrees. At sixteen, he took over the Zechman family business. He faced numerous obstacles and challenges along the way, but he managed to elevate the business to new heights.
He was a business prodigy. By the age of twenty, he had already become the richest person in the world. Now, at twenty–eight, he had a firm grip on all industries. Despite his strategic brilliance, he was unfortunately afflicted with a strange poison.
Clearly, someone was trying to kill him.
After hesitating for a while, Keiran couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Zechman, what if the Seavers family realizes that we’re secretly suppressing them? If they think our family is ruthless and turn against us, would it affect things at your grandfather’s end?”
Just as expected, Jonathan halted in his tracks.
He slowly turned around with a dark, enigmatic look in his eyes, making it impossible for anyone to discern his thoughts.
“Half a year ago, Grandpa proposed the marriage to bring good luck. The Seavers family seized the opportunity to secure a project worth hundreds of millions. But now, they’re backing out and even sending the unloved daughter the recently found. Do they no longer have any respect for the Zechman family? Or do they think that Gabrielle will not survive after marrying me?
No matter what scheme the Seavers family is playing at, whether I live or die, or whether Gabrielle can cure my illness, I, Jonathan, will never allow anyone to bully her now that she’s a member of my family, the Seavers family included,” declared Jonathan in a cold voice.
He was from the Zechman family, who were known for their protective nature, and Jonathan was no exception.
“It seems the Seavers family’s plan has gone awry,” Keiran said with a soft chuckle.
With regards to the substitute bride, the Seavers family firmly believed that since the Zechman family had accepted Gabrielle, they would have to take the loss in silence, too embarrassed to bring up the matter again.
After all, back in the day, it was never explicitly stated that the marriage alliance had to be with someone with the Seavers surname. The crux of the matter was that Gabrielle was the Seavers family’s own flesh and blood.
For this reason, they felt nothing wrong even if they bullied Gabrielle,
After all, they were certain that the Zechman family would not stand up for her.
Upstairs, within the bedroom, Gabrielle set down her medicine box, carefully selecting the precious herbs

She hissed softly, reaching up to rub her neck.
After picking herself up from the carpet, she realized her legs were somewhat numb. Unable to maintain her balance, she lost her balance and fell back onto the carpet.
She simply laid down, inhaling the scent of medicine that permeated the air. The restlessness in her heart subsided considerably. Glancing at her phone which was beside her, she noticed that Zachary had called her three times.
Gabrielle didn’t respond. Instead, she scrolled through her contact list only to realize that she didn’t have a single friend in Drocver.
“Heh, I’m such a fool.” Gabrielle laughed at herself.
When she first returned to Drocver, she went out of her way to please every member of the Seavers family, all for that sliver of familial affection. However, she neglected herself in the process, which led to her miserable state currently.
Having returned seven months ago, she wondered if she was a failure for not making a single friend.
At that moment, her cell phone began to vibrate.
She watched as the phone number flashed on the screen, promptly ending the call.
A message from Caleb popped up immediately: Why aren’t you answering my calls? Call me back right now.
Gabrielle looked at his message, feeling utterly annoyed.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Caleb added: Pick up the phone. I want to talk to you.
Gabrielle massaged her temples, glancing sideways at her phone. Seeing the incoming call from Caleb again, she didn’t even think twice before blocking the number.
In no time, a notification for a message from the blocked list popped up, but she didn’t swipe to read it.
At that moment, a knocking sound echoed from outside the door.
Gabrielle glanced toward the door before rising from the carpet. As she got up, he casually picked up the prepared medicine and began to walk out. As soon as she opened the door, he saw Charles standing outside respectfully.
“Mrs. Zechman, it’s time for your meal,” Charles said softly.
When Gabrielle caught a whiff of a tantalizing aroma, she looked up to find its source. Her eyes landed on the dining hall of the second floor, where an array of sumptuous dishes were laid out.

meal. Would you like to eat now, Mrs. Zechman?”
Gabrielle was somewhat taken aback.
At the Zechman residence, everyone, be it the butler or the housekeepers, treated her with utmost respect. Even though she was brought in for good luck, not a hint of disdain was shown toward her.
“Alright, I’m indeed hungry,” Gabrielle murmured softly.
She handed over the freshly prepared medicine pouch to Charles.
“This is the medicine I’ve prepared. Have Jonathan soak in it for half an hour every night. Remember, it has to be done before nightfall. If you forget, the poison that’s being suppressed in his body will rebound and double in strength, which could potentially lead to death,” Gabrielle cautioned in a hushed tone.
When he heard her warning, Charles’s face drastically changed. He quickly tightened his grip on the medical bag, fearful that he might lose it.
“Mrs. Zechman, what should we do if the poison unexpectedly acts upon?” Charles asked nervously, following behind her.
