Chapter 12 Dogging Trouble
After he had personally witnessed her neutralizing the poison for Jonathan that morning, he knew that Gabrielle was someone capable.
“If he obediently soaks himself in the medicine every night, there won’t be any trouble,” Gabrielle murmured softly.
She walked up to the dining table, where a lavish dinner was laid out.
There were braised short ribs, boiled crabs, butter–poached lobster, salad, and fish stew. Gabrielle was simply left stunned looking at the spread.
During the seven months at the Seavers residence, she mostly ate leftovers.
Every time she finished her work, they had already eaten their fill and hadn’t saved any food for her.
Back then, she felt disheartened, but she didn’t fuss over it. Her meals at the monastery were simple, so she didn’t mind.
After her return to Drocver, this was the most normal meal that had been prepared for her. The gesture filled her with a strange sensation.
“Do you dislike the food, Mrs. Zechman? Or are you allergic to seafood? I can have it removed immediately and bring something else for you,” Charles offered, a hint of panic in his voice as he noticed her standing there, staring blankly at the table.
Charles placed the medicine packet in a basket, and hurriedly moved forward to clear the dishes.
“That’s not necessary.” Gabrielle quickly held his hand, whispering, “I love all of these dishes. I was just lost in thought earlier.”
Upon hearing this, Charles breathed a sigh of relief.
He served her a bowl of soup, then handed her the cutlery. He said, “I hope you like it, Mrs. Zechman. If there’s anything you can’t eat, just let me know.”
“Thank you,” Gabrielle murmured softly.
Only after seeing her begin to eat, Charles, carrying the basket, turned and left.
After she finished her meal alone, the housekeepers immediately came forward to clean up. She stood there, lost in thought as she gazed out the window. Then, she picked up her bag and walked out.
After purchasing a few personal items outside, she gazed at the bright lights and bustling nightlife, lost in

“Gabrielle.” At that moment, an arm reached out to grab her.
Her arm was gripped tightly, causing her to wince in pain. She turned her head and saw Caleb standing there, panting heavily. His eyes were fixed on her like a venomous snake.
“Let go,” Gabrielle commanded in a cold voice.
Caleb pursed his lips, his handsome face brimming with anger. Seeing her struggle, he instinctively tightened his grip, intending to force her into submission. However, he was unexpectedly thrown off by a twist of Gabrielle’s hand.
She turned around, glaring fiercely at him. Her icy gaze was so frosty that it gave him a sinking feeling. He couldn’t help but furrow his brows, wondering why Gabrielle would look at him that way.
“When will you stop this nonsense? You even had the audacity to block my number. Are you trying to get my attention? Let me tell you, playing hard to get won’t work on me.”
Caleb spoke, his tone softening, dropping to a whisper. “As long as you obe-.”
A loud slap landed on his face, instantly leaving a mark just as he had calmed down. He touched his face, staring at her with incredulity.
A smirk tugged at the corners of Gabrielle’s lips as she gave him a once over before saying, “Why are you so shameless? Can you stop bothering me already? Who do you think you are to lecture me? Is it because you’re the illegitimate child of the Lefevre family?” Gabrielle said sarcastically, her scathing words striking a nerve.
Caleb’s lips twitched, the fury in his eyes burning intensely.
He couldn’t believe that she had actually used the fact that he was an illegitimate child against him. He was even more incredulous that she had suddenly turned against him, especially considering how she had always been so attentive and eager to please him before.
In the past, she would never disobey him, let alone talk back.
So now, just because she was asked to get married in someone else’s place, she’s has gotten a rebellious streak?
“Fine, since you dare to speak to me this way, I’ll never ever agree to be with you even if you come back begging.” Caleb felt his pride trampled upon by her, angering him to the point of storming off.
Bearing the sting lingering from the slap, he felt an incredibly unbearable sense of frustration.
As he was about to turn away, his arm was seized by Gabrielle. He tried to shake her off, but she tightened her grip instead. Caleb said haughtily, “I’ve told you, I’ll never to agree to be with you again.”
“Caleb, you come here in the middle of the night to bother me, and now, you’re leaving just like that?” Gabrielle said coldlv. Her voice was raised. startling Caleb.

He had spoken in a hushed tone throughout, donning a hat and mask to disguise himself. All this was done out of fear of being recognized.
Unexpectedly, she had raised her voice and shouted in front of a large crowd, startling him to the point of wanting to escape. However, she firmly held onto him, not letting him get away.
Passersby quickly turned around, directing their attention toward them.
“Let go, let go of me,” Caleb pleaded in distress.
If he were to be recognized, his reputation would be completely ruined.
“Make yourself clear, what do you mean by me agreeing to your request? Are you asking me to be girlfriend? I’ve had enough of you clinging onto me.”
“Someone, quick, call the police. This man is harassing me,” Gabrielle yelled.

She deliberately lowered her voice earlier, and combined with her mask and sunglasses, no one recognized her. However, as soon as she spoke, everyone immediately gathered around her.
After all, who would want to miss out on the drama of a man disturbing a woman in the middle of the night.
“This is sexual harassment.”
“D*mn, is he a pervert?”
Upon seeing him, some women immediately started pointing and gossiping. Observing their reaction, Gabrielle abruptly let go of Caleb’s hand. Just as he breathed a sigh of relief, she unexpectedly reached out.
Taken aback, Caleb found his hat knocked off his head, his face mask yanked down as well.
“You.” Caleb was taken aback, noticing the amusement in Gabrielle’s eyes. He was so infuriated that he felt like exploding, not expecting that she was intent on completely ruining his reputation.
He hadn’t expected that his attempt to give her some advice ended up with her being ungrateful and exposing him.
Caleb quickly covered his face and turned to flee. After only a few steps, a woman wielding an ice cream cone hurled it at his head, cursing, “Assh*le!”
He was struck on the head, with ice cream trickling down his hair. The only thing he felt then was outrage.
Even though he was an illegitimate child, he was still an idol adored by movie fans. But now, he was made to feel like public enemy number one, which infuriated him. Thus, he hastily covered his face and fled.
The more he thought about it the angrier he harama Acha turned and climbed hack into the car he looked

It seemed she had intentionally drawn everyone’s attention to him before retreating from the scene. Upon realizing this, Caleb clenched his fists tightly.
“Gabrielle, you wretched woman! You clearly adore me. Are you now trying to destroy me when you realize you can’t have me? Dream on,” Caleb sneered through his gritted teeth.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. All he could do was punch his seat in frustration.
At that moment, his cell phone buzzed. As he glanced at the number flashing on the screen, the anger in his eyes subsided a little.
“Chloe,” Caleb answered, his tone softening.
On the other end of the line, Chloe was biting her lip, her voice choked with emotion as she asked, “Caleb, where are you? Why weren’t you answering my calls? Are you upset because I asked my sister to marry in my place?”
Upon hearing this, Caleb quickly lowered his gaze to the screen. He realized that during the time he was being chased, he had two missed calls from Chloe.
“Why would I be upset over such a trivial matter? Isn’t it her duty to marry in your stead? Besides, this is only temporary. Once that man dies in a month, she’ll just return to the Seavers family, won’t she? She’s being dramatic over the matter, and it has nothing to do with you, so don’t feel upset,” Caleb gently reassured. “I’ve already scolded her, I believe she won’t dare to trouble you again.”
