someone leaked the truth about your illness. They knew you were in critical condition. The Seavers family didn’t want to offend the Zechman family. If the Zechmans pushed for a marriage alliance, the Seavers wouldn’t dare say no. So they brought Mrs. Zechman back just in case?” Keiran asked, slightly stunned as he followed Jonathan’s reasoning.
Jonathan gave a small nod, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. “An ordinary housekeeper wouldn’t have access to sensitive details about my health. It has to be someone close. Don’t alert anyone for now. Start a discreet investigation and flush out whoever it is.”
“Understood,” Keiran replied. His grip on the iPad tightened slightly as he turned to leave the room.
Jonathan lingered a moment before heading into the bathroom. As he approached the window, he spotted a small puncture in the glass and caught the faint scent of something burnt. In the corner lay a bit of ash. He reached out, rubbed it between his fingers, and realized it was what remained of a sigil.
Mr. Zechman” Charles called as he approached quickly.
Jonathan turned to look at him, noticing something hesitant in Charles‘ expression. In a calm voice, he asked. “What’s the
matter?”
Earlier today, Mrs. Zechman mentioned I might have kidney stones.” Charles said, pulling out a CT scan. “So I went to the hospital, just to be safe. Turns out she was right. They caught it early, thankfully. At my age, repeated laser surgery would’ve been rough.”
Jonathan’s dark eyes narrowed slightly. “She could tell just by looking at you?”
“Yes.” Charles nodded. He pulled out his phone and opened a video. Speaking in a quiet tone, he added, “I’ve watched her on that livestream. Despite the online drama, the prediction she made for Jennifer came true that same night”
“And during high tide, when the sea started to flow in reverse, the sigil she placed at the cave entrance actually held back the water. And just now, I saw her call down lightning with a sigil. Mr. Zechman, I don’t think she’s just well–versed in medicine. There’s more to her than that,” Charles said, lowering his voice.
Jonathan studied the CT scan thoughtfully before responding. “Keep what happened tonight between us. Don’t mention it to anyone else.”
“Yes, Charles replied quickly.
There are people out there who’ll do anything,” Jonathan said gravely. “Most won’t believe the skills she showed on the variety show. But if the wrong people find out what she’s capable of, she could be in real danger. And the Seavers family won’t stop coming after her.
Charles was taken aback. Only then did he realize just how far Jonathan had thought this through.
“Right, I won’t mention it again, Charles said earnestly.
He hadn’t thought much beyond reporting it. He’d only wanted to show how capable Gabrielle was, not realizing the consequences it could bring her.
Jonathan said nothing more. He turned and walked off, while Charles quietly left the room as well
Inside the bedroom, the silence was heavy.
Jonathan sat on the couch for a long moment before finally picking up his phone. He stood and walked to Gabrielle’s room. Once he reached the door, he hesitated a second, then raised his hand and knocked.
“Who is it?” Gabrielle called. She’d been lying in bed, lost in thought, not even online.
Snapped out of her daze, she got up and opened the door.
When she saw Jonathan standing there, she was a bit surprised. “Mr. Zechman? Did you need something?”

Gabrielle hadn’t expected that. Thinking back to their agreement, she turned and grabbed her phone, pulled up her QR code, and the two of them added each other. Then they exchanged phone numbers,
“Here.” Jonathan said hoarsely, holding something out to her.
Gabrielle took it, puzzled, only to realize it was a car key. She looked back at him in confusion.
Taxis aren’t easy to get around here. I arranged a car for you. If the driver’s not available, just use it yourself,” he said, his voice calm and steady.
Afraid she might overthink it, he quickly added, “It’s just a BMW 5 Series Pretty low profile.”
Gabrielle was caught off guard. He held the keys out to her with a small smile. “Well, thanks then.”
“Get some rest,” Jonathan said, just as he was about to turn back to his room
But as he turned, he heard her voice behind him. Jonathan.”
He paused and looked back, his gaze falling deeply on her face, waiting in silence.
“If you’re trying to find out who poisoned you, you’ll want to look close to home. The poison’s too strong–too deeply rooted in your blood. I’d bet the antidote needs blood from a close relative. My guess is, your family’s been trying to figure it out for years, but you haven’t made any progress, right? You should think about who you were with during Black Friday–especially at midnight. That might be your answer.
Her voice was soft but firm.
Jonathan was stunned again. The poison had first struck without warning. His body collapsed, his mind clouded. Back then, no one suspected poisoning. Years passed, with no cure in sight. Only later did they discover it was a slow–acting poison in his bloodstream.
But looking back now was harder than ever.
“Thank you,” Jonathan said, voice low and raspy. His deep black eyes held an unreadable expression as they stayed on her
face.
Gabrielle grinned, still holding the car keys. She tossed them in the air and caught them. “No need to thank me. Let’s call this your thank-you gift for the car. But a BMW 5 Series is a bit flashy for someone like me.”
She gave him a look before slipping back into her room and shutting the door behind her.
Jonathan stood outside for a while, staring at the closed door. Her words echoed in his mind–blood from a close relative. A dark weight settled over him as his hand clenched into a fist
That night, Gabrielle slept better than she had in weeks.
When she finally woke, it was already noon. She stretched out lazily, squinting at the bright sunlight pouring through the window. Reaching for her phone, she turned it on and was instantly bombarded with news updates.
Seavers Group Faces Bankruptcy.
Feliz Seavers–Suspected Drug Use. Taken away by the Police Afier Causing a Scene.
Chloe Seavers Was Once A Sugar Baby.
Cabrielle skimmed through the headlines. The Seavers family had become the center of a public storm, facing an onslaught of doubts and suspicions online.
She sighed, rubbing her temples as she sat up, glancing at the news again.

After browsing for a moment, she stood up and got dressed–high–waisted jeans and a cropped white tee. She pulled her long hair back into a ponytail, freshened up quickly, and headed out.
As soon as she came down the stairs, Charles approached with a respectful nod.
“Mrs. Zechman, what would you like for lunch?” he asked warmly, his eyes full of admiration.
“What’ve you made? I’m not picky–anything’s fine.”
Back on the mountain, just having food at all was a luxury. There was no such thing as being selective.
“I’ve prepared rotisserie chicken, risotto, pork knuckle, and lobster thermidor, Charles said, watching her expression as he spoke.
