Chapter 8
Joseph
“Joseph, an alpha needs a luna by his side. An alpha is only as good as the company he keeps,” his mother, Cheryl, said, sitting across from him at the dinner
table.
“She’s right; it doesn’t look good for an alpha to be divorced at such a young age,” his father, Michael, said, taking a bite of his steak.
Joseph rolled his eyes; he was sick of having the same conversation with his parents whenever they came over for dinner. They only cared about his love life and wanted him to marry. Cheryl keeps insisting that he goes on a blind date with her friend’s daughter, but Joseph kept refusing.
“She’s a nice girl,” Cheryl insisted. “You should give her a chance. She has luna potential.”
At that point, Joseph wasn’t interested in marriage. He had just gotten out of a marriage, and he was still conflicted about how he felt about it.
“Or I could do a little research and find the most suitable women in the kingdom. I’ll send you a list tomorrow,” Michael said, making a note on his phone.
“He’s still wrapped up over that gold–digging orphan,” Ella chuckled, with sarcasm oozing through her voice. “You should have seen him at the celebrity party. He couldn’t stop staring at her. Jealous because she was all over the prince…”
Joseph slammed his fists on the table, loudly, startling his family.
“Enough,” he hissed at his sister. “You won’t speak ill of Anna any longer or I’ll deduct half your pocket money each month going forward.”
Ella instantly shut up, turning back to her food, and keeping her head down.

“Are you sure you want to be a bank manager?” David asked, leaning against my bedroom door as I finished fixing my hair. Today was my first day on the job as a bank manager at the main head courters branch. He was the CEO of the King Pack’s central bank, and he hired me once I expressed my interest in starting a career outside of my art business.
Since I’ve been married, I haven’t really been working on my art business. Only a little bit here and there; but now that I’m back at the King’s pack and resuming my role as princess, I figured I could continue, not only my business, my helping my family with their businesses as well.
“Yes,” I told him. “Thank you for hiring me.”
“Of course,” David said, laughing as he backed away from my door. “I’ll meet you in the car.”
I finished getting dressed and met my brother in the car that was parked in front of the palace. As we neared the bank, I started to get a bit nervous. I couldn’t remember the last time I worked. Joseph never allowed me to get an actual job. He said my job was to stay home like a good luna and take care of the house. They treated me like I was their slave all while draining me of my blood and my senses.
I cringed at the thought.
“Please don’t tell them I’m your sister,” I asked before we got out of the car. “Just tell them I’m your good friend.”
“Why?” He asked, raising his eyebrows. “Embarrassed to be my sister?”
I chuckled and shook my head.
“Because I want them to respect me for being their boss and doing good at my job; not because I’m the princess,” I told him.
“They will question why the CEO of the company is at the main branch,” He reminded me.
My face fell slightly; he was right, there wasn’t going to be a way around it. They might not recognize me because I spent most of my life hiding within the palace, but they will certainly recognize Peter as their boss.
Peter sighed as he assessed my face.
