Chapter 41
“Her real identity?” Joff asked, blinking confused.
My father nodded.
“What good would that do, father?” I asked, I was still on the fence about revealing the truth to them. I was used to going by Anna and I didn’t want to disrupt the life Anna has built.
“It will make the harassment stop. my father answered; I knew there was no changing his mind once it’s been set on something.
The look of unease must have been on my face because Sean draped a protective arm around my shoulder and pulled me close to him.
“You’ll accompany the meeting with me,” Sean said with a confident grin. “That way I can be around to protect you in case anything happens.”
I glanced up at my father to see if he’d protest, but he just nodded in agreement.
1 sighed.
“Okay…” I said in agreement after a few moments of processing everything.
The time of the meeting came quickly; there had to be hundreds of wolves in the meeting yard. The media was also nearby and filming everything as it was going on. My father sat at his throne towards the front of the yard, along with my brothers Peter and David. Joff stood with the other grammar warriors along with Rita. They both looked ready to fight if one broke out; I wasn’t sure what they were expecting to happen. It’s not like Ella and Tina alone were going to make a scene in front of everybody.
I knew for certain they were going to attend the meeting; they wouldn’t miss something like this if the King was involved. If Joseph was going to be here. they were definitely going to be here as well.
The yard filled up quickly and seats were being taken at a quick pace. Thankfully we had reserved seats towards the front of the yard; I tried to keep my head down because I knew what everybody was saying about me. It was all over the news. Despite Sean already making calls and getting the stories taken down, it was out long enough that everybody had already seen it and talking about it.
It didn’t matter though; I knew the rumors weren’t true. It was obvious the picture was fake and anybody who knew me knew that it couldn’t possibly be
true.
I stopped as Richard, the shareholder that took over for Cher in his absence, stood in front of me. He stared down at me with a worried expression on his face.
“Miss Anna,” Richard greeted me, his voice weighing heavily. “It seems there are quite some rumors speculating around you.”
My cheeks flushed; I shouldn’t have been surprised that he has heard the rumors as well.
“Yes, sir,” I said to him, keeping my tone even and my posture straight.
“We can’t have something like that forming a reputation about the company,” he said, his eyes narrowing in on me.
“I understand, sir,” I told him. “I assure you; they are just rumors. Nothing said in the news was true and we already cleared it up with the media.”
“Yes, but some important customers have already phoned in this morning with some complaints about the kind of people we have running the branch,” Richard informed me.
“I will call them first thing in the morning and explain everything with my sincerest apologies,” I assured him. “I won’t let these rumors jeopardize the company.”
“See that you do,” Richard said as he brushed past me. “If we lose any of these customers, it’ll be your job that is in jeopardy.”
I watched as he disappeared through the crowd. Sean stood beside me, and I could feel him tensing.
