Gabrielle returned to her senses, the mental image disappearing.

“Who’s there?” Gabrielle rose to her feet and walked towards the door. Upon opening it, she found Jonathan’s towering figure standing outside.
Upon seeing the cold sweat trickling down her forehead and the exhaustion evident on her petite face, Jonathan glanced at her, his voice low as he asked, “Are you all right? I heard you cry out and came to check on you.”
Gabrielle was somewhat taken aback, recalling the moment when she was propelled outward by that force.
She shook her head, murmuring, Tm fine.”
Upon seeing this. Jonathan felt his lips twitch, but he said nothing.
“By the way, did your Uncle Frankie ever have any children?” Gabrielle asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.
Seeing that she had broached the subject first, Jonathan shook his head. “Uncle Frankie was apparently infertile,” replied Jonathan, his voice low. “He never got married or had children his whole life. Because of this, my mother took extra care of
him.
“That can’t be right. Let me take another look at that photo,” said Gabrielle softly.
Upon hearing this, Jonathan turned around and retreated to his study. He fetched the photo and entered Gabrielle’s room
once more.
As he handed the photo to Gabrielle, her almond–shaped eyes were slightly narrowed as she glanced at the picture. She murmured. “Your uncle doesn’t look like he was childless. It’s unlikely that he’s infertile. This man seems to have a strong paternal aura, and I sense that he has at least three children.”
She looked up, her gaze filled with uncertainty as she turned towards Jonathan. In a soft voice, she asked, “Are you certain he’s never had children:”
“My father didn’t like Uncle Frankie, so I generally avoided interacting with my uncle’s family. Furthermore, after the incident with my father, my grandfather forbade any contact between us and my uncle’s family. It’s been many years since we’ve seen each other. It was due to my suspicions about my uncle’s family that I started an investigation two years ago. However, it seemed as if my uncle had vanished into thin air, leaving no trace behind. I couldn’t find any clues about his whereabouts, said jonathan.
“A decent person can’t just vanish into thin air. Over the years, my mother has given him a lot of support,” said Jonathan softly. Logically, his family should be in good financial standing. It’s impossible for a businessman not to leave any traces behind. Yet, it truly seems as if he’d vanished”
For this very reason, Jonathan had not linked Frankie to the poisoning incident. “If he truly has a wife and children, it’s highly likely that even my mother was kept in the dark,” said Jonathan solemnly, clearly convinced of Gabrielle’s words.
Gabrielle, holding the photograph, walked over and sat down on the sofa. “Chloe’s past is as mysterious as your uncle’s. The details of her birth were all fabricated. Even the birthday the Seavers family currently celebrates for her isn’t her actual birthday.”
“I just retrieved a lock of her hair from the hospital,” said Gabrielle softly, “and I felt a force guarding her past. I managed to break through that force just now. Can you guess what I saw?”
Upon hearing her words, Jonathan slowly took a seat across from her. The two locked eyes for a moment before Jonathan thally spoke in a hushed tone. “If the date of birth is a lie, then is her appearance also faked?”
“Indeed. When I saw her as a child, her face was severely injured; it seemed as if even her bones had been reconstructed. Thus, it was somewhat difficult for me to discern things about her from her features. I only knew that her luck wasn’t particularly good,” replied Gabrielle.
Jonathan’s fingertips tensed slightly as he gazed at her, deep in thought.

Conversing with an intelligent person is indeed a pleasure. With just a few simple sentences, he can comprehend exactly what I’m trying to convey. I feel so much better after talking to someone like him as well.
“That’s what I’m sensing, indeed. But I can tell, your uncle definitely isn’t dead. From what I can gather from the photo, he wasn’t destined for an early death. When I have the time. I’ll help you find him. But now isn’t the time,” Gabrielle stated.
She got up, stretching languidly, and began to walk towards the floor–to–ceiling window.
As she stood there, gazing outside, she realized that it was already dusk. The sun was setting, casting a fiery glow that painted the entire sky red. This radiant afterglow enveloped the horizon.
“The Seavers family had financial dealings with my uncle, who was fully aware of my circumstances. He informed them about my impending demise, which is why the Seavers family brought you back, intending for you to marry me as a means to bring me good fortune! How did the Seavers family become involved with Uncle Frankie? What do they gain from having you marry me?” Jonathan asked, somewhat puzzled.
Gabrielle, however, laughed.
“By marrying me off to you and sacrificing me, they’ll be able to protect Chloe. The Seavers family treats her like a precious gem, cradling her in the palm of their hands. How could they possibly let her marry someone like you, who’s on death’s door? Besides, they couldn’t quite gauge how desperately your family wanted to bring luck upon you. Would they go to the extent of sacrificing your wife if you had passed? Once they’ve sacrificed me, there would be no one left to compete with Chloe for the position of the heiress to the Seavers family. I can’t help but wonder, why on earth does the Seavers family despise me so much: After all, I am a blood relative.” Gabrielle mused.
Even if they weren’t fond of her, there was no need to push their own flesh and blood to their death. Yet, the members of the Seavers family had done so.
“I’ll have someone look into it for you,” Jonathan said hoarsely.
Gabrielle shook her head, standing shoulder to shoulder with Jonathan in front of the floor–to–ceiling window. As the sun began to set, its remaining light draped over them, enveloping them in a somewhat dazzling glow.
“There’s no need to look into it further. I’m not interested in the affairs of the Seavers family,” Gabrielle stated. “Besides, marrying you and leaving the Seavers family might not have been a bad choice after all.”
Gabrielle had taken these things in stride. She had never been particularly obsessed with family. Her mentor had once told her that her kinship ties were not strong, and there were some things she did not have to force.
It was amusing to think back now and wonder why on earth her past self was so determined to be highly regarded by the Seavers family,
Were the Seavers family members that important? Why was there a need to curry favor with them?
“But the way you taught Zachary and the others a lesson today, wrecking their car and leaving them terrified, was pretty cool,” Gabrielle said with a soft chuckle.
The scene she had witnessed in her rearview mirror as she was driving away had given her quite a start. She hadn’t expected Jonathan to act so decisively. He had driven his car straight into Zachary’s, crushing it completely, leaving the latter with no chance for resistance. /
Seeing Zachary and Chloe in such a state of confusion and shock was amusing to her.
When they encountered an opponent stronger than them, they didn’t dare to make a peep,
They’re a family of cowards, bringing everyone misfortune.
“You could do the same. If anything goes wrong, I’ll take the fall for you.” Jonathan chuckled under his breath.
Watching the way her eyes lit up in front of him made her appear like she was just like a little girl to him. Jonathan’s gaze softened with a hint of indulgence.
“Mr. Zechman, please don’t tempt me into committing bad deeds. I’m a law–abiding citizen,” said Gabrielle solemnly.
