Rubbing his temples. Zachary unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt.
His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, his entire being filled with agitation. He was no longer as calm and composed as he was before. Yet Felix’s words resonated in his mind.

“First, let’s investigate this matter to see if there’s anything fishy going on. How did this piece of land end up in Michael’s possession! If it’s a trap set by someone else, and we were to walk into it, we’ll likely end up losing everything.” Zachary stated.
In response, Felix nodded in agreement.
“I had already asked a friend to investigate for me. We should have the results soon. If it really is owned by Michael, then we can use Caleb to our advantage. Even if he is an illegitimate child of the Lefevre family, he’s still a member of their family. Trading him for a piece of land is a good deal. Besides, everyone can see how infatuated he is with Chloe. Get Chloe to invite him over for a talk when the time comes. If he wants to be with her, he must show his sincerity, that is to give us that piece of land.” Felix revealed his plan.
He didn’t have a particularly good impression of Caleb, but for the sake of his family, he decided to just risk it
“You want Chloe to seduce him?” Zachary gave him a somewhat disapproving look.

The group was engrossed in conversation, completely forgetting about Chloe who was still unconscious.
Chloe groaned in agony, feeling as if her insides were being scorched by a fire. Her body throbbed with intense pain, and her face felt as if someone was skinning her alive.
The pain was spreading relentlessly throughout her body. She wanted to struggle, but something was holding her down.

She gave them a pitiful look, her eyes rimmed red and her body trembling as she said, “I had a terrible dream. In it, someone was burning my insides, and even peeling the skin off my face. It must have been Gabrielle. She definitely had a hand in this. The moment she left, things went south for us. She is well–versed in the occult, so she might be cursing us. Is she praying for my death?” Chloe sobbed in between her smidles.
Tears kept streaming down her face. The sight of her tear–streaked face elicited an odd expression from the three men who were watching her.
“Zach, you guys don’t believe me?” Chloe sniffled a few times.
She noticed that they didn’t step forward to comfort her, nor did they embrace her as they used to. Biting her lip, she hopped

Chloe was nestled in his arms, moving like a viven. Her tiny hands clutched the hem of his clothing, her entire body pressed against his Felix’s body tensed slightly, evidently aroused

Zachary was thirty–one, and Felix was twenty–nine. They were both older than him and had seen a thing or two. Despite being a bit flustered by the situation, they managed to maintain a cool exterior.

He made several phone calls, but the people within his circle promptly turned him down.
“Mr. Felix, don’t take it the wrong way, but previously, when Father Sebastian agreed to assist you, it was already a big favor. Not only did you not trust him, but you also upset him to the point of leaving. I’m powerless to help you now.”

After the people he call was done disparaging his family, they immediately hung up.

The others fell silent
The atmosphere in the hospital room was off. Marilyn was so furious that her whole body was trembling and saliva continuously dripped from the corner of her mouth.
She had always been a stickler for cleanliness. Being a wealthy lady, she placed utmost importance on her image. Yet, there she was, drool continuously trickling down the corners of her mouth, even staining her clothes
Tears streamed down her angry face as she spoke through her gritted teeth “Find Gabrielle. I want. I want this… this wretch to… to come over here.”
Her mouth was slightly crooked, causing her to stammer.
Upon hearing those words, everyone fell silent. Zachary could vaguely feel that his body was still in considerable pain.
“I’m going for a check–up,” Zachary stated
After he returned from his medical examination, he discovered that three of his ribs were cracked, not broken. Yet the pain persisted. As for his leg, the bone was slightly dislocated and needed to be realigned.

“I managed to break the old man’s curse, and he died on the spot. If he really had cast a spell on Chloe, then Chloe would suffer a backlash, Gabrielle murmured.
