Michael placed his phone on the table and tapped the speaker button.
Gabrielle and Jonathan both looked up at the sudden action.

“Michael. I know I messed up before. I made Mother angry, and now the family’s cut off all my resources. Im hospitalized” Caleb’s voice crackled through the speaker.
Gabrielle immediately recognized the voice. Michael had turned on speakerphone deliberately so they could hear what Caleb had to say.
“That’s your own doing. Calling me won’t help. I can’t and won’t intervene, Michael replied coldly.
It wasn’t that he was ostracizing Caleb, it was that Caleb was simply insufferable.
He was always scheming behind the scenes, pretending to be obedient while constantly trying to meddle in Lefevre Group’s affairs. The family had repeatedly shut him down.

Michael’s expression darkened instantly.
His lips twitched. Before he could speak. Zachary continued. “I apologize for reaching out this way. I was wondering if you’d be interested in meeting for a drink.”
His tone was uncharacteristically deferential, almost as if he was asking for a favor.

He had no respect for Zachary
The man might have been a shrewd businessman, but his methods were underhanded.
After a pause, Zachary said, “I heard you are in possession of the land in East Drocver. I’d like to propose a partnership. Profit–sharing terms are flexible.”
He believed that as long as he offered enough benefits, Michael would surely agree.
Michael let out a derisive laugh. “Why would I choose you? Have you forgotten? Seavers Group is practically bankrupt. All operations have halted, your artists are unemployed, and your cash flow is frozen. The entire industry is blacklisting you. What exactly would I gain from partnering with a sinking ship? The Lefevres have been allies with the Zechmans for generations. If I wanted a partner, I’d go straight to them. With the Zechmans resources and capital, everything would be secured. What exactly are you bringing to the table?” Michael retorted sharply.
Each word was a calculated blow to Zachary’s pride
He knew the Seavers family couldn’t compare to the Zechman family. Zachary had hoped to get Michael drunk and push the deal through, but Michael wasn’t even giving him the chance.
It was clear that Michael looked down on him.
Zachary was seething with anger, aware that he was being insulted.

So which family member has the surname Simmons that would make the Zechman bride your sister? Michael mocked.
Zachary was speechless.
His lips moved, wanting to explain, but he didn’t know what to say.
Gabrielle’s surname was Simmons. Even if he claimed her as his sister, it wouldn’t link the Seavers family to the Zechman family
Frustration boiled over. He felt the urge to curse loudly
“Don’t contact me again. The East Drocver land is mine, but I only work with competent partners. If you can get the Zechman family to vouch for you, I’ll consider letting you in. Otherwise, forget it.” With that, he ended the call.
He tossed his phone aside, grabbing a piece of meat. “That b*stard actually tried to use you as leverage, Gabrielle.
Turning to her, he warned. “Don’t fall for his tricks. Zachary has a terrible reputation. He specializes in exploiting people.”
He was also worried that Gabrielle might fall for Zachary’s trap.
“Like you said. I’m a Simmons, he’s a Seavers. We’re not family. Why would I fall for it?” Gabrielle chuckled.
Michael grinned, giving her an approving nod inwardly.
“Good. But mark my words. Zachary will try to pressure you into making Jonathan help him. They don’t care about the land. They want to establish a connection with the Zechman family. They have been salivating over the Zechman family’s wealth for years. They wanted the money but were too scared Jonathan’s death would taint their precious adopted daughter. That was why they pushed you to take her place in the marriage. If there’s profit, the Seavers family want a cut. If there’s disaster. you’re on your own Disgusting, selfish b’stards.”
Michael’s voice was thick with contempt.
