A slight smirk tugged at the corners of Chloe’s lips as he followed her in the conversation. Satished, she nodded and said. “A couple of days ago, we saw Gabrielle having dinner with a man.”
“Do you think the one with the ZAS license plate is really from the Zechman family, Ben?”
“Don’t forget, Jonathan is on his deathbed. There’s no way he could have gone out to dine with Gabrielle. Besides, with a personality like Gabrielle’s, she’s not the type that men typically fall for
“Right after she married into the family, supposedly for good luck, how could that man protect her so fiercely? He even went as far as to risk hitting us with his car for her sake, Chloe said in a hushed tone.
She couldn’t make sense of things over the past couple of days in the hospital.
Moreover, she was afraid that if Gabrielle managed to genuinely win over the Zechman family, and if Jonathan didn’t actually die. Gabrielle would benefit from the situation.
A flicker of resentment rose within her, but it was quickly drowned out by fear.
The idea of Gabrielle gaining from a marriage she herself had rejected was unbearable. The thought alone terrified her.
“In this world, apart from that one person, no one dares to drive a car with that license plate. I’ve had people look into it, but we can’t find any information about this man’s background. As for the situation with the Zechman family, we’re also in the dark. Currently, there isn’t much information about that man.” Zachary said softly. “All we know is that he is seriously ill and doesn’t have much time left.
Without realizing it. Chloe’s hand tensed up.
She looked at Zachary nervously, her voice lowered. “Zach, what if that man’s illness being critical is a hoax? What if it’s just a ruse? What if he’s trying to throw everyone off–to make people lower their guard around the Zechman family. Could it be some kind of business strategy! Then wouldn’t Gabrielle marrying him be.. Chloe didn’t dare finish the thought.
Lately, Gabrielle’s arrogance had taken root in something real.
It made her wonder–was the man from the Zechman family, the one said to be gravely ill truly sick at all?
“There’s no way this news could be false, Zachary flatly denied.
Chloe wanted to ask more, but his gaze stopped her. Subconsciously, she turned around and found Caleb staring intently at her Hastily, she flicked her hair.
“I’m heading out first. Mr. Caleb, do get some rest. Zachary courteously nodded at Caleb. –
After all. Zachary was not pleased that Caleb hadn’t been able to assist during the hectic times.
However he didn’t completely burn bridges with Caleb. After all, who knew if he might need him in the future! Relationships were always complicated, and who could claim to fully understand them?
“All right.” Caleb responded softly.
After Zachary departed the hospital room fell into an eerily quiet state,
Chloe glanced at the half–eaten bowl of oatmeal, picked it up, and gently offered it forward “Would you like some?” she asked softly
“No thanks” Caleb hastily shook his head in refusal.
After visiting the hospital last night, he found himself trapped in the elevator as he was leaving. He could family hear Chloe conversing with an unfamiliar man, discussing how fortunate he was.
Caleb gazed at her thoughtfully, as if trying to see night through her.

Suppressing his inner discontent, he asked with confusion. “How did you know I was stuck in the elevator back then?”
Back then, he had already left, and there was no cell signal, even the alarm was broken Yet, Chloe precisely knew which floor he was stuck on, and even managed to get someone to pry open the elevator doors.
Deep down, Caleb was quite puzzled. He had a famt feeling that something was off, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it
“When you left, I followed you. I had something to discuss, but you took the elevator. I noticed it seemed to shake a bit from outside, then it stopped altogether. I realized something was off, so I called someone to check it out,” Chloe responded without missing a beat.
However. Caleb remained somewhat skeptical.
When he left back then, the hallway had been eerily quiet–so quiet he hadn’t even noticed her running after him.
He’d been talking with Zachary in the corridor while Chloe was still in the hospital room. Even if he had left, she wouldn’t have known. So now, her recent words only deepened his suspicions.
“What is it about?” Suppressing the confusion within. Caleb asked in a hushed tone.
Chloe took a seat by the sickbed, her gaze upon him was filled with complexity
“I know you’re smitten with Gabrielle. I can’t quite figure out, though, why she’s been playing this cat–and–mouse game with you, reeling you in while simultaneously keeping you at arm’s length. A couple of days ago, Zach and I were out, and we saw her dining with a man at a private restaurant. They even had bodyguards blocking us from entering
“I was quite puzzled at the time.” Chloe began in a hushed tone. “So I kept following her, wondering if she had been deceived by someone. Unexpectedly, that man drove the car straight at us. Zach and I almost got hit, the car was even dented.”
Listening intently, Caleb furrowed his brows, clearly not convinced.
“You don’t believe me? It was the same day you made headlines with your scandal! The day we supposedly spent in a hotel
om together. If you don’t trust me, I can have someone check the surveillance footage.
“Do you have any connections? If so, you could directly access the surveillance footage nearby and see for yourself, Chloe continued refusing to give up
She was determined to erase any traces of Gabrielle from Caleb’s heart
No matter what, it was imperative to keep Gabrielle away from any influential family. If anything went wrong with the Zechman family, it would push Gabrielle into a corner.
“Tell me when and where,” said Caleb, his voice hoarse
He still couldn’t believe that Gabrielle had actually gone on a date with another man,
Moreover, even entertaining the idea that Jonathan would accompany her out for a meal was clearly impossible. Not to mention whether he would even find her appealing, even if he did, he was on his deathbed,
It was common knowledge that a man on his deathbed wouldn’t have the energy to rise and accompany her for a meal
“Primus Restaurant on Bard Street, around half past one in the afternoon Chloe promptly provided the time and location.
Upon hearing the mention of Primus Restaurant, the frown on Caleb’s face deepened

This was utterly absurd
Caleb instructed his assistant through the phone. “I need you to check the surveillance for Primus Restaurant on Band Street, around one–thirty in the afternoon the day before yesterday”

His chest was heaving continuously, holding his breath, clearly puzzled as to why she had changed so abruptly. After all, he thought he had her completely smitten.
Why had she suddenly turned hostile, even going so far as to bite him?
“Don’t be too upset. I’m sure she was duped by a man. Nowadays, there are many men who purposely seek out women around their twenties. They believe these women are innocent and wish to provide for them.”
“Besides,” Chloe began, casting a deliberate shadow over Gabrielle. “my sister must be in need of money, desperate to secure some. She’s afraid that if something happens to the Seavers family, she’ll lose her safety net, I understand her.”
As she spoke. Caleb found himself studying her face before subconsciously turning his head away.
The moment his phone buzzed. Caleb promptly answered the call, whispering, “Did you find the surveillance footage? Send it to me quickly, and also investigate the identity of the man in the footage.”
