The lunch was satisfying. It’s been a while since I got to eat something as good as this meal. freedom. There’s no one to impress around me so to better enjoy the food. I eat to my heart’s content. I don’t want to waste a single scrap of food
Since I’m eating alone, I let myself enjoy some that Jared bought for me. It’s also rare for me to get treated with meals.
Well, I don’t go out with friends or anyone unless it’s some luncheon meeting. As for friends, I don’t think I have any except Lucas. The friendship that may disappear soon if I cannot get rid of my feelings towards him. After all, this vacation refreshes my mind and resets my emotions. I should do it before I go back to the office to work. Otherwise, Lucas might not just unfriend me but fire me from my job too.
Speaking of my job, I’ve been working in his company for a couple of years. I think I’ve got enough experience to get a new job in some other places. It’s not like I’m willing to yield my position and start over somewhere, I’m just preparing for the worse.
Also, I’m not fond of office work at all. In fact, I have something else I want to do, but when I fall in love with Lucas, I follow and support him until he achieves his dream.
How foolish, right! Why would someone live their life for others?
Of course, it’s because of love.

The deep shit I’m talking about is being in relationship‘ with Jared Although the latter seems to treat me nicely, I can’t predict what he’ll do next. Jared is like a ticking time bomb that can explode anytime without a warning.
“He treats me to lunch today though.” Amid the doubts I have about Jared, 1 can’t entirely judge him, so giving him a chance is not that bad. I guess. It’s a benefit of the doubt. He said we’ll have to take responsibility for each other, there’s no way he’ll be irresponsible after insisting on this arrangement, right!
Jared is clueless when dealing with emotional problems. He can’t get a clue of the situations which don’t involve business. However, he’s someone who can be sharp when working. He won’t be the Vice President of Gold Corp if he isn’t reliable for the position.
“He needs to take more lessons from his secretary,” I mumble, I can’t help but chuckle when recalling our conversation over the phone earlier. I’m certain he’s talking to Sir Wellington, who seemed frustrated at his boss‘ attitude.

it’s nice that he’s trying. So maybe I’ll try to get things to work out between us two. If there’s really nothing, then we’ll call it quits.
“All right. Enough of eating. I’m so full now,” I slowly stand up from my seat after drinking a glass of water. There’s a strawberry smoothie but I’ve already eaten too much sweets for dessert. I’ll keep the smoothie in the fridge and drink it later.
“There’s still many left”
I think I don’t even have to worry about dinner. If it’s just me, the leftover foods are enough.
What if Jared suddenly comes though? I told him it’s fine to eat together when he’s free. And I don’t have any idea whether he will have some time tonight
After clearing the table, I unlocked the spare room in my house, 1 didn’t include it in today’s cleaning schedule for two reasons: One, my brocher, Claude, uses this roop when he comes to visit. Two, he put a lock on the door and I don’t have the key. I don’t mind whatever he’s hiding inside. Really. But my curiosity gets the best of me. The last time he visited, he bought a lot of fabric and hid them in this room. When I asked what they were for, he shrugged and told me, “See for yourself“.
See! The way he responded then is making me more eager to see what’s in there. I’m not expecting a grand treasure but it should be at least something worth to hide Anyway, he gave me his permission so I’m going to take a peek. In the past, I was busy, but not now.
“I’ll see whatever Claude’s lilding here”
The key to open it isn’t with me but I keep a hammer somewhere so it will suffice. I can just buy a new lock or get the door repaired if I ever end up breaking it
“Okay. So how do I break this lock?” I observe the luck to figure out the best angle I should hit to break it. “Maybe it will come off if I hit it with all my strength, huh?”
I’m getting ready to open it when my doorbell rings again
Is it another delivery? Perhaps a snack this time.
Frowning. I head to the door to see who it is. I have to suspend the plan on pecking at Claude’s secret for the meantime. I’m rather annoyed by the sudden interruption of my plan when 1 realized it must be Jared.

“We just talked over the phone, though. Don’t tell me he’s already free!”
Shaking my head, I pull the door open while preparing a bright smile to greet who’s outside. There’s only one person in my mind while doing so. To my surprise, the one who’s standing by my door isn’t Jared
What’s my boss doing here again!
“I mean, boss. I don’t expect you to find me for the second time today. It’s just the first day of my vacation, remember?” I’m trying my hardest not to slap my face in front of Lucas, who turns pale the moment our eyes meet.
What’s going on in his mind?
Won’t you let me inside this time too?” He wiggles his eyebrows as he waits for my reply.
1 don’t know. Do you have something to discuss with me? Wait, you didn’t come here to fire me, did you?” I’m moving on from my unrequited love for him and one thing I should do is to avoid him.. only for the meantime. When I’m done with the process, everything will be fine. I don’t plan to avoid him my entire life just because he dumped me. But I need some time to get used to a life which he’s not around.
A life which doesn’t revolve around him.
what made you think I’m going to fire you! Ah. I came here to discuss the proposal with Gold Corp. Since you worked with the previous proposal on my behalf. I don’t think there’s someone who can better revise it other than you.”
Ah. So that’s why he came to my place. It’s about the proposal that Jared has rejected. I mean, the Gold Corp.
“What can I do! I’m on vacation.” I know it isn’t right to refuse my boss but my job description is his secretary but my actual job is more than that Most of the time, 1 handle the work that other department heads should do. What’s worse, Lucas always takes the credit.
Everyone compliments the boss when the project is a success and the company shares skyrocket. I never thought before he’s abusing me as his employee because I’m willing to do anything to make him shine Now it is different, 1 can see the entire picture and no matter how I look at it Lucas is just using me for his gain.
“Yes, I know that. You will get paid double if you work on this one, Daph There’s so many things to handle right now. My schedule is full so I don’t have time to do it and I believe your ideas matter when we’re talking about this project”
The person who wishes me to enjoy my vacation is the same person who wants me to rack my brain in revising a proposal while saying he’ll pay me double. Gosh! I don’t need double pay. WharTnged–is peace of mind.
With all those words coming out of Lucas‘ mouth, I feel nauseous.
Hah! So you’ll only realize one’s true nature when you distance yourself, no?
“Then how about forgetting the cooperation? The Vice President of Gold Carp doesn’t seem to be pleased with my proposal, thus, it needs to be revised. If we pursue this project and get rejected for the second time, do you think we’ll get on the Gold Corp good side again! They’re the perfect perfectionists who don’t allow a so–so idea”
“Daphne, are you saying you will not do it because of a personal grudge!”
What! So he thinks my suggestion is unreasonable!
“Boss, even though you haven’t rejected my lame confession, I’ll say the same thing. The Gold Corp didn’t give us any definite answer, but a second chance. If we mess it up this time, there will be no other chance for us to cooperate with them in the future.”
Lucas glares at me for a second. I know about his habitual glares when he’s not satisfied with my answer. Hut of all people, he should know I have a point
1 sigh. “Come on in. We have to discuss this.” I step aside and let him inside. “Follow me. My place isn’t as grand as yours, but I hope you can relax. 1 don’t have any dangerous pets in here.”

“I’m guessing you don’t, but what’s with that hammer in your hand!”
__“Oh, this?” I lift my hand with a hammer. Im planning to use it to break something.”
If only I can hit you with this hammer, too,
“Ah. Haha. Why not put it down while we talk!” Lucus is shaking a little while averting his gaze.
The scared? I will not hit him, though. Even if I want to, I don’t want to get into prison. Why is he so anxious?
Ugh! For real? Why did I fall in love with this man?
