Would Justin have sought out Serena if he hadn’t been drunk?
Zane stole a glance at the rearview mirror, watching Justin’s shifting expressions. One moment, he was scowling; the next, grinning. It was unsettling.
“Zane, didn’t I tell you to find a new assistant? Still no progress?”
“Mr. Farrow, I’ve shortlisted a few suitable candidates, but you haven’t had time to interview them yourself,” Zane replied.
“Today, then. Have them come over immediately.” Justin reclined in the backseat of the car, his legs crossed comfortably. He could always find a replacement for Serena
When they arrived at Farrow Corporation, Justin wasted no time arranging the interviews. Soon, the candidates gathered in his office. After all, the opportunity to work at such a prestigious company was rare.
They filed into his office, lining up nervously. Two men and three women, all visibly anxious, were surprised that Justin himself was conducting the interviews.
“Let’s begin with introductions. One minute each,” Justin said, reclining on the couch.
The first candidate stepped forward eagerly, rattling off their introduction. When the third person spoke, there was a soft knock at the door.
Candice peeked in. “Justin.”
Justin shot her a glance, “I’m busy. Come back later.”
“Alright. Sorry to interrupt.” Candice swiftly slipped inside, closing the door behind her. She settled into a chair, smiling brightly. “I’ll just sit here quietly. Pretend I’m not here.”
Her innocent expression made the word “Leave” seem impossible to utter. He swallowed hard.
“Fine. Continue,” he muttered, and the interviews resumed
Once the introductions were over, Justin asked a series of questions, eliminating two candidates along the way. By the end, only four were left.
Leaning back, legs crossed, Justin surveyed the remaining candidates. “Jessica Hayes, go to Zane later to finalize your onboarding process.”
“Me?” The tall woman on the far right pointed at herself, disbelief etched on her face. However, her surprise quickly dissolved into a delighted grin. She nodded eagerly. Yes, Mr. Farrow!”
The others stood and left the room. Candice’s gaze followed Jessica. As Jessica paused at the door, she looked back at Candice for a moment before stepping out.
Justin stood up. “Why are you here again?”
“You don’t want me here?” Candice’s face immediately fell
His tone softened despite himself. “It’s not that. I just didn’t want you to tire yourself out. You were already with me at the hospital this morning.”
“I was worried about your gastritis, so I came by.” Candice stepped forward, holding out a pink thermal flask with a playful design. She unscrewed the lid, and the savory aroma of the contents wafted into the air.
“Mushroom soup?” Justin asked.

“I made it myself. Try it!” Candice urged.
Unable to refuse her, Justin took a spoonful.
“Well?” Candice asked eagerly.
“It’s alright,” Justin replied.
“Really? I’m glad you like it!” Candice beamed, wrapping her arms around his waist in a quick hug.
Justin froze, spoon still in hand, his thoughts drifting. If Serena had made this, it probably wouldn’t feel this cloying.
Wilson watched the man across from him at Quade Group, dressed in a sleek silver–gray suit. He tossed him a cigarette. “What happened to your face?”
Jacob caught it between his lips, his voice muffled. “What else? The old man hit me.”
“Impressive. He’s still got it,” Wilson said, blowing out a smoke ring, clearly amused by Jacob’s misfortune.
Jacob rolled his eyes. “I came all this way to deliver a gift, and this is how you treat me?”
Jacob then pulled out a box and set it on the table.
Wilson didn’t hesitate, tearing open the package.
