Feeling Lucas‘ quiet care, Aurora couldn’t pretend she wasn’t moved.But then, she thought of his memo–his so–called true love.
And just like that, her mood dipped for reasons she couldn’t quite explain.
She didn’t even understand why she felt this way.
She thought of that quiet, hidden affection she’d kept buried deep in her heart–never spoken aloud and never given the chance
to be known.
Lucas, meanwhile, stood behind her, eyes lowered, treating each strand of her hair as if it were something rare and precious.
His movements were careful, focused, as though nothing else in the world mattered.
The same hands that signed million–dollar contracts were now drying her hair with a gentleness she hadn’t expected.
If Desmond saw this, he’d probably think hell had just frozen over.
By the time her hair was fully dry, Aurora had sorted out her tangled thoughts.
No matter what, Lucas was her husband now.
As long as he didn’t cross a line, she wasn’t going to interfere with his private affairs.
But there were still boundaries–basic dignity that needed to be maintained.
That thought brought a question to her lips.
Curiosity edged into her voice. “By the way, how did you find me today?”
She’d truly thought the worst was going to happen when those men had pinned her down.
She could hardly move, and for a moment, she really believed she might not make it.
She hadn’t expected him to show up like some kind of guardian angel at the very last moment.
Lucas paused, then said, “I was waiting for you downstairs at the office. When I asked the front desk, they told me you’d already
left.”
“When I couldn’t reach you by phone, I knew something was wrong.”
The memory of that moment still made his jaw clench.
His fists curled slightly at the thought.
He wasn’t going to let those men off easily.
“I see,” Aurora murmured, the pieces falling into place.
