Chapter 280
Julian and Roseanne’s cousin, James Palmer, were the closest of buddies and often hung out at the Palmer Manor.
Back then, Julian and Anya were taken care of by servants. Beth was often unwell and resting at another estate, while Issac focused all his energy on the company and rarely cared about their day–to–day life.
On the other hand, Layla, the Palmer family’s matriarch, treated Julian very well. Every time he went over, Layla would personally make his favorite food and care for him like her own grandson.
At that time, Roseanne was a year younger than him, and spent most of her time with Layla, so they naturally grew up together.
Layla always joked that when Roseanne grew up, she’d marry Roseanne to him.
At that point, Julian didn’t care much about love. He just heard this so often that he subconsciously thought he’d marry Roseanne eventually.
The two families were well–matched, so rather than wasting time looking for other women, wasn’t it better to marry Roseanne?
Later on, Roseanne confessed to him in front of Layla and James, but he didn’t really react. It felt natural, and they ended up together.
He believed he hadn’t wronged Roseanne. He didn’t flirt with other girls or look at them, and did everything a boyfriend should do.
By then, he had taken over the Galloway Group, and his second uncle, who was ambitious, wanted to take the company from him, so he focused all his energy on the business.
The Palmer family was also dealing with internal strife between the main house and the second branch. Nick Palmer, James’s father, both in ability and character, was much better suited to lead the family than Theo from the main house.
Bruce Palmer, the patriarch of the Palmer family, also favored Nick to inherit the family business.
This was an internal issue for the Paliner family, so Julian, as an outsider, thought he had no right to interfere. Besides, James was his good friend.
But Roseanne kept pestering him, urging him to help take the company back from Nick. After he refused several times, she proposed breaking up and immediately left for Avaloria.
If she wanted to break up, he let her. He didn’t bother trying to get her back.
And now, Anya was asking him if his feelings for Roseanne back then were the same as for Rosalie now.
His first reaction was a look of “No, they’re not the same.”
Anya saw the expression on Julian’s face and immediately understood what he meant.
“You got together with Roseanne just because you hadn’t met someone you liked, so you thought Roseanne was suitable and went with it?” asked Anya.
To put it bluntly, for Julian, who didn’t understand love back then, marrying anyone wouk! have been the same, so it was better to marry someone he already knew.
Marriage and having kids weren’t things he needed to plan for in his life. Marrying a passable person and being a responsible husband was enough for him.
So, when Roseanne proposed the breakup, he went along with it, not bothering to try to fix things.
Anya understood Julian all too well. He was a very rational person, so rational to the point of being heartless. He could arrange everything in a logical way, even his own marriage.
He did whatever he thought was the most reasonable, and that was how he arranged things.
All in all, he was so rational it was almost scary. Even when their father passed away and their mother remarried shortly after, it didn’t seem to affect harn much emotionally
Instanders, Julian seemed like someone who didn’t care about ernotions at all
