Chapter 291
O
He looked at his phone and gave a soft bitter laugh. “Yeah, if she’s that harsh on herself, why would she soften towards me?”
It wasn’t until he’d been in the hospital for a week and it was time for him to be discharged that he still hadn’t gotten a visit from Rosalie.
There were a lot of people who came to pick him up from the hospital, but it was as if he had survived a major illness, even though it was just a common pneumonia, and the crowd of people made it feel a bit over the top.
Yet, among all the people who came to pick him up, there was no sign of Rosalie.
You’re discharged today, and Rosalie didn’t even come to pick you up?” Anya looked at Julian with a sigh, not sure if she was mocking Julian or genuinely feeling sympathy for Julian recovering from a serious illness.
Julian, who had just changed into the clothes Alan had brought him, paused slightly when he heard Anya’s words as he adjusted his tie, but he only gave her a faint glance and said nothing.
He had gotten used to his sister’s sarcasm by now. If sarcastic remarks could bring Rosalie to him, he would gladly accept them.
*She stopped loving Julian a long time ago. She hasn’t even been to see him these days, how could she come pick him up from the hospital?” Sean, ever the backstabbing helper, stuck in a jab at the right moment.
Kaleb went speechless.
Anya immediately slapped Sean on the head. “SHUT UP.”
She was just being sarcastic, but Sean had gone too far.
Sean rubbed his head with some grievance, looking at his older brother as if saying, “Can you control your wife?”
It was her who brought up the sister–in–law; he was just telling the truth. Why did she hit him?
Kaleb silently turned his face away, ignoring his brother’s plea.
Julian didn’t react, and after getting dressed, Alan returned after handling the discharge procedures. “Sir, the paperwork’s done. Do you want to go home or…
Julian said, “To the office.”
After a week in the hospital, Julian returned to the office, where piles of urgent business were waiting for him, and he was swamped.
That very afternoon, a guest came to visit him in his office. “Julian.”
“Mrs. Palmer, please have a seat.” When Layla arrived, Julian had already been notified by the front desk downstairs, but he was still curious about her sudden visit.
“Mrs. Palmer, what brings you here?” Because of their old relationship, Julian still held great respect for Layla, but compared to her, Roseanne, who came with: her, seemed somewhat neglected.
Roseanne’s gaze rested expectantly on Julian’s cold side profile, but when he didn’t even look at her, her expression da; kened slightly.
Roseanne thought, ‘Has he grown to despise me so much that he couldn’t even look at me?‘
The secretary entered with coffee, placing them in front of Layla and Roseanne, and as she left, she subtly glanced at Roseanne.
Layla looked at her granddaughter with a slightly uncomfortable expression.
After a moment of hesitation, she finally spoke up, Julian, I came here because there’s something I want to ask you.”
“Go ahead“-Julian looked at her and saw the hesitant expression on her face, as if she was too embarrassed to speak up.
