Chapter 294

After Layla finished speaking, she ordered the driver to start the car, not caring how Roseanne felt after hearing her words.
Theo’s family had been spoiled too much, selfish, and self–centered. They would only show a good attitude if things went their way, but if they didn’t get what they wanted, they saw Layla as their enemy.
Layla felt she had done enough for them. Even though Palmer Group was given to Nick, they still gave something else to Theo.
Otherwise, with their capabilities, Theo’s family couldn’t have established themselves in Avaloria.
After all the resources they gave to the eldest branch, however, Theo still failed miserably and had to run back from Avaloria.
Layla was relieved she hadn’t given Palmer Group to Theo back then.
Roseanne hadn’t expected Layla’s attitude to be so firm. Just like when her grandpa gave Palmer Group to Nick no matter how Theo protested, there was no room for change.
Roseanne had always thought that Layla felt guilty for giving Palmer Group to Nick and that, because of this, she could always take advantage of her to get what she wanted.
And because Layla was around, Nick’s family was polite to Theo’s.
That was why Roseanne had becomes
requests.
self–righteous, thinking that no matter what she asked for, her grandmother would always fulfill her
Just like this time, she wanted to intern at Apex Biotech. She knew Julian wouldn’t agree easily if she asked directly, so she had asked her grandmother, Layla, to do it for her.
She also knew how much Julian valued the past kindness between them, so she begged Layla to speak to him. She was confident Julian would agree.
And just as she expected, after Layla stepped in, Julian agreed.
But she didn’t expect that, even though Julian agreed, he still wouldn’t give her any face and made it clear in front of her grandmother, warning her not to try to use Layla to manipulate him in the future.
Roseanne felt deeply aggrieved, but seeing her grandmother’s strong attitude, she quickly gave up on her plans.
She reflected, ‘Ultimately, it’s about overpowering the vulnerable and being intimidated by the powerful,’
At first, she relied on Layla’s sense of obligation to take advantage of her, but now that she saw her grandmother no longer indulging her, she didn’t
dare to make a scene.
She understood that if she continued to act arrogantly, Julian wouldn’t even spare her a second glance.
She knew very well that the Palmer family was now firmly controlled by the second branch, and it was impossible to take Palmer Group back from their hands. Therefore, the only option was to grab whatever advantage she could from the second branch.
And if the second branch was willing to give them any benefits, it was definitely out of respect for Layla. Roseanne was very clear about this, so when she saw Layla getting angry, she softened her attitude.
“Grandma, please don’t be angry. It’s just… I love Julian so much. Seeing him act like that today really upset me, and I ended up saying things that made you angry. Please forgive me.”
Layla glanced at her coldly. Seeing her soften, she decided not to press further. “Since Julian has agreed to let you study at Apex Biotech, just behave yourself. Don’t cause any more trouble. Otherwise, even I won’t be able to help you.”
