Chapter 300
Rosalie was exactly to his taste. Not only was she an unattainable intellectual, a young genius in the medical field, but more importantly, she had the stunning beauty of a top–tier celebrity. She was truly everything Hugo liked.
So, instead of getting angry, he apologized with a regretful expression, “Sorry, Ms. Talley. I got a little too carried away and didn’t notice.”
He thought that after apologizing, Rosalie would at least give him a polite response. However, that didn’t happen.
She only responded with a faint “Mm,” then started talking to Norah beside her, clearly not interested in acknowledging him.
Hugo’s temper flared up again. He thought, ‘Damn woman, how dare she ignore me after I showed her courtesy? Once I’ve had my way with her, let’s see if she still pretends to be so aloof!
The game began.
“Since it’s Wendy’s birthday, let’s have Wendy go first.” Hugo handed the dice to Wendy, and they all took turns. After Hugo’s turn, he passed the dice to Rosalie.
Rosalie wasn’t used to this game, and when she received the two dice from Hugo, her expression froze for a moment. She sneered inwardly but waited a moment before tossing the dice onto the table.
Hugo, who was hoping Rosalie would roll the lowest numbers, saw her roll two sixes, and his face immediately froze in disbelief.
“Impossible!” Hugo instinctively shouted, clearly shocked by the result.
He thought, I have calculated the outcome, so why is it different when it comes to Rosalie?‘
“What’s wrong, Hugo? What’s impossible? Rosalie asked.
Hugo’s face showed a trace of guilt, and when he noticed Rosalie looking at him with a sharp gaze, he, who usually thought he could handle anything, suddenly felt helpless.
He forced a smile and said, “It’s nothing, nothing. I just didn’t expect Ms. Talley to have such good luck.”
His words were grating to him, because this round, he actually ended up with the lowest number.
Sitting right next to him was Wendy, and according to the rules he had set before the game, he had to drink a toast with Wendy.
Although he had some rapport with Wendy, the thought of drinking with an older woman still made him uncomfortable.
Bat the rule was his, and if he broke it, everyone would have a reason to do so afterward.
It’s okay; there’s still a chance later, he comforted himself inwardly, and with a grim expression, he forced himself to drink with Wendy.
Of course, Wendy didn’t mind drinking with a good–looking young man, but the obvious disdain in Hugo’s eyes still hurt her pride. As someone used to being admired by her students, this left her feeling quite uncomfortable.
She didn’t dare to take it out on Hugo, but secretly glared at Rosalie, thinking that the embarrassment from Hugo was because of Rosalie.
What she didn’t expect was that when she glared, her gaze met Rosalie’s, who was looking at her with a half–smiling expression, as though she had already seen through her scheme with Hugo. Rosalie’s gaze made her feel a little guilty,
But she still believed that because she had been at Hawthorne University longer and was older, she had more authority than Rosalie and that Rosalie was no match for her.
So, after a brief moment of guilt, she straightened her back, thinking that even if Rosalie knew about her deal with Hugo, what could she do? Without the support of her family, what was Rosalie?
