Chapter 8
Lucian’s voice cracked. “I didn’t realize the training school would…”
He didn’t finish the sentence.
After a pause, he asked in a shaky voice, “Does it hurt?”
I shoved him away with a dull expression. “What do you think?”
He swallowed hard, his throat dry. “I won’t let them get away with
this.”
I held back a sarcastic comment and stayed quiet.
He grabbed my hand and pressed it to his face. “Come home with me to recuperate.”
I yanked my hand back in disgust. “Do you think Elaine is okay with that?”
Lucian fell silent at the mention of her namę.
He and Elaine had grown up together. If I hadn’t shown up, they’d probably be married by now.
She wasn’t just his childhood friend–she’d also once saved his life. That made her someone Lucian deeply cherished.
Elaine also clung to him.
She was used to being spoiled, and she always got upset when things didn’t go her way.

Chapter 8
But what if Lucian found out her heroic story was a lie?
A flicker of excitement crossed my eyes.
“I’ll talk to her once she calms down,” Lucian said, gently patting my head. “After all, you’re my fiancée. We’ll be married soon.”
I pulled away from his touch. He glanced at his hand, feeling a little lost.
“We’ll go pick a ring tomorrow. The wedding isn’t far off.”
I ignored him, turned away, and shut my eyes.
After a few moments, Lucian gently kissed my forehead. “I’ll spend my life making it up to you.”
Once he left, I opened my eyes coldly.
“Making it up? That chance was long gone,” I thought with a scoff.
