Chapter 7
Archie, the eldest grandson of the Westbrook family, a powerful real estate empire in Miami, stood nearby.>
Hidden among the crowd, paparazzi had disguised themselves, cameras poised
When I spotted the lenses, I didn’t want to bring trouble to Archie or his parents, so I gently tugged on his arm, urging him to leave.
But Darcie convinced they were tailing me, seized the moment to crush me completely.
“Miss Harper, you’ve been obsessively clinging to Finn for so long. I turned a blind eye. And now you trail us all the way to Miami, even hiring some stunt actor to ruin my reputation.”
“Is your only wish for me to die?“>
Finn held Darcie firmly in his arms, calming her.
“Don’t be upset, I believe you.”
No sooner had he spoken than Darcie collapsed into his embrace.§
“Faith, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and donate blood.”
The doctor’s voice was urgent.
“My wife has thalassemia and early–stage kidney failure. Please save her!“}
I opened my mouth to reply, but Archie gently shook his head.
“Don’t waste your breath on them. Let’s just watch the show.”
Then, just as Darcie was wheeled onto the gurney, she suddenly snapped back to consciousness.
Clutching Finn, she sobbed, “I want to go back. Finn, I don’t want to stay here.“>
“That’s not wise. With parasites like you two, it’s better to run the full checkup. If anything goes wrong, we don’t want the blame on us.“> Archie sneered coldly. “Make sure they check her thoroughly, see if anything’s really wrong.”
Darcie cried pitifully, tears streaming down her face as she clung to Finn’s hand.}]
“I don’t want a checkup, Finn! They’re trying to hurt my baby! I won’t go!“}]
Finn soothed her gently, “Be good. The doctor has to check anyway. If anything happens to my child, I won’t let it slide.””
Despite her desperate protests, Darcie was taken inside for the examination.
More and more people gathered around. Even Aunt Elodie, drawn by the noise, arrived on the scene.}
But Finn was quicker, stepping forward.
“Doctor Westbrook, it’s me, Finn. We dined together in Dallas. You know my wife is in early–stage kidney failure and has thalassemia. She just fainted. You’re the expert here. Please, save her.”
Before Aunt Elodie could say a word, Darcie was wheeled back out from her checkup.
Her face was ashen, eyes darting nervously.
Finn hurried to her side, concern lacing his voice, “Darcie, how are you feeling?“}
The doctor handed the medical report to Aunt Elodie, who frowned deeply.
“Kidney failure? Both kidneys are completely healthy.”
Finn snatched the report, disbelief flashing in his eyes.
“What do you mean both kidneys? Didn’t you say you lost one after being kidnapped? That’s why you’re in kidney failure?“>
Tears spilled from Darcie as she sobbed, “Finn, I only lied because I love you so much. But the baby inside me, it’s truly yours.“}
At that moment, Archie sneered coldly, “I remember you’ve only been back in the country for less than a month, yet the report says you’re already nine weeks pregnant.”
“But this is President Brooks’s private matter. We have no right to interfere. Wife, let’s go.”
Just as Finn was about to chase after us, Aunt Elodie’s sharp voice stopped him dead in his tracks.
“Didn’t Faith say she was bringing me soup? Did you sneak it and drink it, you brat?”
Aunt Elodie gave Archie a light smack.
I reached out and gently rubbed Archie’s head, “It wasn’t Archie’s fault. I accidentally spilled it.”
Aunt Elodie smiled warmly, stroking my hand, “Faith, you’ve been through enough. From now on, don’t do things alone. Make this rascal handle it.”
“You two better hurry up and get your marriage certificate; I’m still waiting to drink my daughter–in–law’s coffee.”
