Shortly after the Kennedy family banquet, Layla received an admission letter from Athena University.
Her admission as a postgraduate student there was explosive news in her social circle.
Layla frowned at his accusation. “Uncle Peter, did you check my bank records?”

His tone was serious. “Layla, is it true that you got into Athena University?”
“Of course, it’s true.”
She saw no reason to hide it; secrets didn’t stay hidden in their circle anyway.

Layla frowned at his accusation.
“Uncle Peter, did you check my bank records?”
“I did it for your own good! Twenty billion! And you used it to bribe your way into Athena University? How will our family ever hold its head high? Do you have any sense of shame left?”
Peter sighed deeply and continued, “You go to Athena University right away and get the money back. You’re not going to attend this university!”
Peter’s attitude was firm, clearly convinced that Layla had used the money to secure her admission
Layla immediately knew Rachel must have instigated Peter to make this call.
However, she couldn’t reveal the land issue or let Rachel manipulate the situation against her.

Peter’s face changed drastically. “What do we do now?”
“Uncle Peter, I genuinely want to attend this university. After all, I’m also part of the Kennedy family. The family business isn’t doing well, and I want to contribute more. Trust me, I’ll study hard and ensure that the twenty billion isn’t wasted.”
Layla spoke gently and persuasively, leaving Peter at a loss for words for a moment.
Considering the current condition of the Kennedy family business and the fact that the funds were Layla’s inheritance, outsiders had no authority to meddle.
“Uncle Peter, Logan also supported my decision to pursue higher education. Learning more about finance is crucial. Peter hesitated upon hearing Logan’s suggestion.
“Uncle Peter, you don’t need to worry about this matter. It’s their business how others perceive it. The lecturers at Athena University even said I have talent and potential as a promising student.”

“Of course,” Layla replied with a smile. “You’ve seen my academic performance since childhood. Getting admitted to Athena University as a postgraduate student is an achievement that brings honor to our family.”
With that, Peter remained silent.
Being able to attend postgraduate school at Athena University at the age of twenty–one was indeed a great source of pride for the family.
If it hadn’t been for Rachel suspecting Layla of using underhanded means and the mysterious disappearance of twenty billion. Peter wouldn’t have made this call.
After Peter hung up, Layla couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.
It was surprising how quickly Rachel began coveting the inheritance her father left her. At the slightest hint, Rachel couldn’t wait to urge Peter to investigate her bank accounts.
It seemed like everything was planned out in advance.
Layla dialed the bank’s direct line, and the call was quickly answered. “Hello, Miss Kennedy, How can we assist you?”
“I want to transfer assets to another account.”
“Alright, Miss Kennedy, we’ll have a specialist assist you with that.”
Layla said coldly, “If anyone from my family wishes to inspect my bank assets, kindly seek my consent beforehand.”

Layla hung up.
After investing twenty billion in that plot of land, her bank account was nearly depleted. Her father’s inheritance had always been kept in this account, with only Peter being aware of it.
It was surprising that he had also informed Rachel about such an important matter.
Clearly, Rachel was no ordinary person.
On the day of enrollment. Layla woke up early, and Maria had already prepared everything.
Watching Layla pack up alone. Maria couldn’t help but say, “Mr. Robinson should have come back to help, especially knowing that today is your enrollment day.”

On the other end of the line came Zane’s low, amused voice “Congratulations on your first day of school.”
“You must have known my exam results for a while now, right?”
“Yeah, kind of.” There was a moment of silence on the other end. “Have you finished packing all the necessary items?”

Since receiving the acceptance notice, Layla had already checked, and those houses were not just pricey but also hard to come by. By the time she investigated, most of them had already been rented out.

Fedrick gritted his teeth but dared only to mutter quietly.

Thinking about this, Fedrick drove while giving Zane a fierce look in the rearview mirror.

Layla didn’t quite catch it.
“He said it’s not too expensive, Zane clarified.
Just then, the car executed a sudden sharp turn, causing Layla to lose her footing. She found herself enveloped in a strong and steady embrace in the next moment.
A firm and composed voice echoed above her. “Fedrick, watch your driving!
“Sure.”

The car pulled up outside a high–end residential complex across from Athena University. Zane handed an electronic card to Layla. “Your personal information has already been recorded. Just swipe the card to enter and exit. This complex has high privacy; most of the residents are prominent figures in the industry, which will make it easy for you to make new friends.”
Layla glanced at the complex.
When she decided to come to Athena University, she had considered renting a place here.
However, the homes were not only pricey but also required specific qualifications for residency.
Zane must have put a lot of effort into finding her a place here.
“Take a look inside; see if it suits your taste.
Zane’s gaze softened.
As Layla stepped into the complex, she found her apartment nestled on the thirteenth floor, offering a picturesque view. Upon unlocking the door, a delicate aroma wafted into the room. The interior boasted an understated elegance, precisely the style she favored.

Zane didn’t intend to sugarcoat the situation.
Layla nodded. “That seems reasonable.”
Watching from the sidelines, Fedrick couldn’t fathom Zane’s approach.

“Anyhow, we’ve got our own tasks to handle, so we won’t disturb you further. You sort things out yourself.

He just had to give this clueless guy a piece of his mind.

The door closed behind Fedrick, and Zane casually adjusted his sleeve cuffs.
“Are you serious? Asking for rent? Do you really need that money? Fedrick felt the urge to kick him. “No wonder you’ve been single for twenty–six years!”
“Just a tactic, Zane said nonchalantly.
“She obviously knows this place is pricey. I’m giving it to her rent–free, but she might not appreciate it unless she feels the weight of owing something Zane explained with a smirk. “Plus, the more she owes, the trickier it be to settle, and the more
chances I’ll have to see her.”
