Chapter 29 Meeting a Wife’s Obligation
Chapter 29 Meeting a Wife’s Obligation
Layla heard the door creak open, and a faint light filtered into the room.
“Layla,” Logan called her in a deep voice.
She pretended not to hear him.
He raised his voice and called her again.
Frowning, she kept her eyes closed and retorted, “Why are you disturbing my sleep?”
“Get up!” His tone was laced with anger.
Frustrated, she sat up and faced him at the door, questioning, “Have
you lost your mind?”
He lunged forward without warning. She was stunned when he pinned her down on the bed easily.
The dim light cast a shadow over him. She realized their proximity.
Her breath hitched, but she forced herself to calm down. “What do you want?”
“Where were you just now?”
“I was out for dinner with a friend.”
“Who?”
She scowled. “I don’t owe you an explanation. Remember, we are merely using each other for our gain.”
“Is that so?” He sneered.
She realized she was in danger before he ripped open her pajamas. “You’re my legal wife. Why don’t you fulfill your obligation as a wife now?”
“You can’t be serious!”
He was forceful. As he was almost tearing off her clothes, she burst out in anger and slapped him.
The room fell silent after that.
She coldly stated, “I’m not your plaything.”
The man who straddled her froze. His chest heaved due to the intense moment earlier.
“Get out!” She pointed at the door, her eyes reddened. He wondered if she was angry,
After he regained his composure, he got up and left the room.
As he shut the door, he massaged the bridge of his nose. What’s wrong with me? Why did I do that?

After a moment of contemplation, he turned around and reached for the door handle. Still, hesitation washed over him, and he ultimately decided against entering the room.
Little did he know, she had locked the door due to his failed assault earlier.
It seems like my behavior earlier agitated him. I need to be careful in the future.
The following morning, Layla found Maria, who usually woke her up, missing.
She descended the stairs to search for the woman. “Miss Cassidy?”
After several calls went unanswered, she spotted Logan seated on the couch.

The man dressed in a white shirt was sipping his coffee, his expression distant as ever as if his attempt last night was all but a dream
“Where is Miss Cassidy?”
“I gave her a day off,” he replied.
She rolled her eyes. “What about my breakfast?”
He raised a curious brow. “Can’t you make it for yourself?”
Her lips curled into a frown.
“Maybe you should start to beg if you don’t know how to make breakfast.”
I’m not playing his games! He’s paying me back for last night!
She entered the kitchen and grabbed a few eggs and a pack of bread.
Not expecting her to cook, he paused. His gaze followed her into the kitchen.,
She remained unfazed by his attention. Coming from a wealthy family, she never set foot in the kitchen as the servants would always prepare her meals for her.
In her previous life, following her marriage to him, she took Keena’s advice that the way to a man’s heart was through his stomach. Thus, she, a pampered lady who was unaccustomed to cooking, started learning to cook.
However, he never spent time tasting her cooking. After all, he favored Harper over her.
He frowned when he noticed there was no portion for him. “What about mine?”
“Make it yourself.” She rolled her eyes.
He growled, “Layla!”
Ignoring him, she took a bite of her toast. She saw no point in trying so hard to please him as she no longer had feelings for
him.
“I’m done.” After finishing her meal, she took her dishes to the sink.
Then, she grabbed a purse, intending to head out.
He demanded, “Where are you going?”
“I have class later”
“Excuse yourself from attendance.”
“What’s your problem?” she roared.
He hasn’t been himself since morning. First, he gave Miss Cassidy a day off. Then, he forced me to make my breakfast. Now, he wants me to ask for leave for school.
After a while, he finally asked, “What’s the deal with the piece of land?”
Finally, he asked the right question. I thought he wasn’t going to ask. No wonder he has been acting so strange today. I see. It involves his
interest.
She said, “I’ve sold it.”
To whom?”
“I don’t need to explain my right to you.”
“Layla!” He hissed, “Do you know how much it’s worth?”

“I don’t. It’s just that I regret buying it for so long, and I was eager to sell it. Of course I sold it when someone expressed their
interest in the land.”
“How could you?”
She stifled a smile at the sight of his anger.
“What’s the matter, Mr. Robinson? I thought you thought it was a waste of money. What changed your mind?”
He suppressed his anger and asked, “Who did you sell it to?”
He continued when she refused to answer, “Did you know it would be designated for landscaping all along?”
He spent the whole night thinking, and couldn’t think of a second possibility. Nobody in their sane mind would spend a great fortune to buy said land.
He had thought she had lost her mind before. But now, he felt she did it on purpose.
“Are you kidding? I don’t have your intelligence or your vision. I can’t possibly think that far ahead. I only did it for fun. Don’t overthink it.” She cast him a genuine smile, causing him to doubt himself. Maybe she’s right.
She didn’t want to waste her time waiting for his reply, so she prompted, “Can I go now?”
“Not yet.”
“What else?” She glanced at the wall clock. It takes time to arrive at the university. I’ll be late if I don’t go now!
“I had asked Leo to call in for you. We’re going shopping later.”
“Huh?” She stared at him as though he spoke an alien language.
Her gaze seemed to bore into him. He locked eyes with her and sternly explained, “We need to take photos for the pretense. Showing affection at the conference wasn’t enough to convince the public. The news of you having a tryst at the nightclub had severely damaged the company’s reputation, remember?”
