When Lucas returned to the room, he saw Leonard standing beside Aurora’s bed, his face full of pity.
Just as he reached out, about to touch Aurora’s cheek, Lucas slapped his hand away.
A second later, his fist landed squarely on Leonard’s face.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Leonard let out a cold snort. “What, just because you can’t protect her, no one else is allowed to take care of her?”
“Get the hell out!” Lucas‘ presence filled the room.
“Don’t forget, you’re just a business partner. I’m her husband, her legal husband.”
“As for you…” Lucas looked him up and down with disdain.
“At best, you’re just a pathetic little side piece.”
The words “pathetic little side piece” pierced Leonard deeply.
He looked at Aurora’s face, eyes filled with reluctance and helplessness, then finally turned and walked out.
Lucas was right–his presence here
was completely inappropriate and humiliating.
“You’d better treat Aurora well. Keep
promise and be a man about it.”
Lucas snapped impatiently, “Of course I will. This is my responsibility, and I won’t let something like this happen to her again.”
“This is the first and the last time.”
As he spoke, a grave note crept into Lucas’s voice.
He wasn’t just saying it to Leonard; he was warning himself.
This was something he would never allow to happen again.
From now on, he would stay by Aurora’s side every step of the way, never leaving her again.
Leonard took a long look at Aurora, then drew in a deep breath–this time, he truly decided to let go.
“You’d better keep your word.”
With that, Leonard turned and walked out.
It was only after he left that Ian hiding in the corner finally let out a sigh of relief.
That was terrifying–just now, their presence was on a completely different level from his.
During their confrontation, he had honestly thought they might start throwing punches any second.
The moment that thought crossed his mind, he had already prepared to call the police and alert the doctors.
After all, they were in a hospital.
If those two really started fighting, there was no way he could stop them.
