Fortunately, he had moved quickly, acted fast, and said nothing unnecessary beside Aurora’s bed.
Had he been just a few minutes later, he might’ve run straight into that man.
After returning, Gary immediately sent a message to Tessa.
“I just gave Aurora another injection. She probably won’t wake up for a few more days.”
When Tessa saw the message, she grinned from ear to ear. She quickly replied:
“Nice work this time. Don’t worry, I’ll transfer the money to your account soon. Think about it, where else are you going to find a deal this good? I pay you, I keep your secrets. Isn’t that the best of both worlds?”
Reading the message, Gary couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and frustration.
His resentment toward Tessa only grew,
He’d never seen anyone this shameless.
She was clearly blackmailing him, yet she made it sound like he was the one getting a great deal.
If it weren’t for Tessa, he’d still be a mid–level supervisor in this hospital, living a decent, steady life without worrying about any of this.
If she hadn’t dug up that past incident, he had almost forgotten it himself.
Everyone had skeletons in the closet–why did she have to keep dragging his out?
But looking at her message now, he knew he had no way out.

He was the one with secrets in her hands, the one taking her money. He had no right to refuse anything.
He could only continue playing the obedient supporting role, sticking to his place.
As long as he followed the script, she gave him and did what she asked, there shouldn’t be any further trouble.
Even though her messages were shameless, he still had to flatter her.
After all, one thing he could admit–Tessa was quick with the payments.
As long as he quietly did what she wanted, the things he wanted buried would stay buried.
So, Gary sent another message to Tessa:
“You’re right. I’ll cooperate with you fully. I’ll continue giving Aurora her injections on schedule. But the man who’s been staying by her side doesn’t seem easy to deal with.
“He’s sharp too. After all, Aurora only has gastroenteritis. If she stays in the hospital too long, he’s bound to get suspicious.
“If he brings in his own medical team or transfers her to another hospital, I won’t be able to keep giving her the injections for you.”
Reading the message, Tessa fell silent. This was a real problem.
Gary had a point.
If Lucas decided to move Aurora or have her evaluated by his own doctors, their plan would fall apart.
The drug supply would be cut off.
The thought gave Tessa a headache, but she knew she had to steady the situation for now.
“No matter what, just keep giving her the injections. As long as she stays in First Light Hospital, I’ll figure out the rest.”
Seeing that, Gary didn’t press further.
He’d already laid out the risks and consequences.
If she still insisted on continuing, then it wasn’t his problem.
He would just stick to his assigned role and do what was required.
As for the rest–they’d deal with it one step at a time.
