Chapter 13
He didn’t look convinced, but he let it go.
Adam, on the other hand, had zero patience left. His hand shot out, grabbing my arm as he started leading me toward the door.
I yanked free immediately, shooting him a glare. “Touch me again, and you’ll be leaving here in a damn ambulance,” I snapped before storming ahead of him, muttering a curse under my breath. The bastard.
The tension in the car was suffocating. I sat rigid in my seat, arms crossed, watching Adam from the corner of my eye. His grip on the steering wheel was tight, his knuckles slightly pale. His jaw ticked every few seconds, like he was grinding his teeth.
The man was pissed.
“Where are we going?” I asked, breaking the silence.
No answer.
1 let out a slow breath, my patience wearing thin. “Could you at least slow down? Or is reckless driving
ving your coping mechanism?”
Jstill nothing.
I huffed and turned to face him fully. “I don’t get why you’re acting all mad when you’re the ones messing with my job,”
That got a reaction.
His head turned slightly, his gaze flicking to me for a brief second before anapping back to the road. Then, in a voice so low it sent a chill straight through me, he said,
“If I were you, I wouldn’t try to push my buttons even further, flower.”
His eyes were cold, glacial.
My stomach clenched at the intensity of it, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.
I turned away, looking out the window, swallowing against the sudden dryness in my y throat. I didn’t say another word
Minutes later, he pulled up in front of a massive skyscraper. The building stretched high above us, sleek glass Lead back, my eyes landing on the name stamped in bold letters across the entrance.

Quantum Ventures.
I stiffened. Adam’s father’s company.
I’d heard about it before, from Addy, who’d looked it up online because she had nothing better to do clearly. A multi–billion–dollar empire with its hands in everything from finance to real estate.
I turned to Adam, frowning. “Is this where we’re having lunch?”
He ignoted mr. Typical.
Instead, he stepped out, slamming the door shut behind him, then walked aliead like I wasn’t even there.
I gritted my teeth but followed, my bouts making soft taps against the marble flooring as we entered. The lobby was bustling, executives in suits, assistants in peral skins, security stationed at every curtier. It was the type of setup that made me nauseous, because this was what my mum still insisted I should be doing. Attending stupid meetings and shit.
Despite the activity, I noticed one thing, the way people greeted Adam
Or at least, tried to.
A few nodded or murmuted a quick “Good afternoon, sir,” but he didn’t so much as glance at them. He moved through the space with an air of authority. But I knew it wasn’t because he belonged here more than anyone else, it was because he was pissed as hell. Those who were sinart enough to notice stepped
I had to pick up my pace to keep up

He didn’t stop until we reached the elevators.
Without looking at me, he spoke. “Go to the eighteenth Bloor and tell the receptionist who you are.”
I blinked, taken aback. “Wait, what? What about you?”
But he was already walking away, heading down one of the hallways without so much as a backward glance,
I stood there for a moment, watching his retreating figure, irritation hubbling inside me.
“Asshole,” 1 nwittered under my breath.
