Rue had left me on the balcony, steaming mad. I gripped the balcony
s railing until I felt the material crumble under my strength. I couldn’t push away the gnawing feeling that twisted my stomach and caused my head to pulse angrily. I needed to know why she sat alone in Alpha Heir James Knights section. Was he why she refused
to let me help her or become my Luna? Rue was right that It wasn’t my business. Her
personal life had nothing to do with me, yet here I was, causing damage to the building to
regain control of my emotions.
My thoughts were reeling as I pushed off the railing and took determined steps back into the banquet hall. I would confront Rue and get some answers. As her somewhat fiance, I had a right to know why she refused my offers. Another growing crowd gathered around the same table area I was heading towards, and my stomach sank with an uneasy feeling. I pushed a few people out of the way just in time to see Rue’s hand tilt slightly and spill all over Jessie’s dress. Jessie’s eyes are honed in on me as I continue to approach.
An ear-piercing scream exploded out of Jessie’s mouth, and I closed the distance between us. Jessie clung to me, giving the growing audience an entire show. I could see that her
tears were fake, but as my guest, she had been insulted. I barely understood what she was
babbling about, but I could see the shocked look on Rue’s face. I searched her eyes for
answers, but her rich hazel rings revealed only disbelief. I couldn’t figure out why Rue had
spilled the drink when she had previously wanted to be left alone at the training camp.
Had I been wrong about her this whole time when I should’ve believed Jessie?
“You need to apologize for ruining her dress!” my voice became harsh, a demand for
control over the situation.
Her eyes meet mine, and I see a small amount of hurt in them. ” Do you really believe
her?”
“I watched it happen.” Her words took me aback. Cocking my head to prompt her for more. I observed the momentary pain and embarrassment pass her features when the crowd whispered around us; however, it was quickly replaced by a fury that burned me to my soul. Rue grabs what’s left of Jessie’s drink, chugging it with pure defiance.

“Fuck you both. I’m not saying sorry for something I didn’t do!” She released between clenched teeth. I watched in lustful fascination as her murderous intent focused on me,
“I’d never waste delish wine on trash.”
Jessie’s fingers grabbed my chin again, forcing me to look at her. She pouted and motioned toward her stained dress; with so little fabric, the deep red liquid dried against her skin. “That girl is bad news. Did you see what she did to the dress you chose for me?”
I surpress the urge to argue with her. I literally sent her with my no limit credit card and told her to pick out something for a black tie event. I barely even looked at the dress before this moment. Instead I gestured for a staff member to come over and help Jessie into one of the room to clean up. Once they were there I took off after Rue. From her reaction, I knew there was more going on between those two. I could get Jessie’s side of the story anytime, but Rue was a vault. A locked down, airtight safe, and I wanted the key to unlocking her so severely. I found Rue leaning against the wall in the hallway. She was focused on her phone. My steps slowed so I could admire her beauty. The petite braids in her hair had come undone in a few places, and her dress was slightly askew in one section. These tiny blemishes added a human factor to her ethereal stunningness. I close the distance between us, “Rue!”
Her face morphed with anger when I called her name, “Why can’t you leave me alone?”
Why was she so adorable when she was mad? She was within arms’ reach now, and I forced my arms to stay at my side. “I let the disrespect go the other day, but a whole room witnessed you dumping your drink onto Jessie.”
Rue pushed off the wall with her shoulder, pocketing her phone, clinging to her clutch, and squared off in front of me, “Jessica is the one who grabbed my wrist! When I tried to pull away, she tilted my wrist in a way that made the drink spill.”
“That doesn’t make any sense! What reason would she have to do that?” I could feel my
confusion rising. Rue crossed her arms over her chest, her heavy breathing pushing her
bulbous breast to strain against the dress’s satin material. Something about this woman
frustrated and intrigued me at the same time. I wet my lips to focus away from her body,
“It doesn’t make sense for her to ruin her own dress, but you don’t usually lie. So explain to me why she would do that.”
Rue threw her hands up in defeat, “I don’t know! She is bat-shit crazy!”
I stepped forward with an overwhelming need to be closer to her, “Again, you’ve insulted

a person under my protection right in front of me! You now need to apologize to me as an Alpha Heir.”
What are you talking about?” Rue glared at me, but it didn’t have the intended effect. It only made her eyes burn brighter, and her lips pursed in a way that looked too damn
kissable.
“Twice now, you’ve told me to fuck off. You’ve insulted the integrity and mental stability of a guest under my protection. Both offenses demand an apology. You would already be dead if it were any other Heir besides me.” I take another step into Rue’s bubble. We are so close now that I feel her anger-fueled warmth.
Her eyelids flutter as she stares at my chest. Rue’s voice is trembling but set with determination, “I will not apologize for something I didn’t do. These offenses that you list are inaccurate and completely stupid.”
“Stupid?” I growl, not able to contain the desires any longer. I grab Rue’s wrist and hip bone and pin her against the wall she had previously been leaning against. I force her hands above her head so she is forced to look directly at my face.
My lust pulses through my body as Rue defiantly spits out, “Yes! Stupid! A complete waste of time! And any idiot would see that Jessica is a conniving bitch who is just using you!”
I pin her back against the wall with my hips shoved against hers. I lean forward to whisper my furious threats and finally memorize her wolf scent, but nothing hits my nostrils. I shove my nose closer to the tender spot behind her ear where our scents are our most potent, and there is nothing there but vanilla lotion.
Her silky, raven black hair tickles my arm as it holds Rue’s hand above her head. I can feel Rue’s nipples pebble against my chest, and I watch with curiosity as her chest heaves. My fingers on my free hand slid through her hair, down her neck, and grazed the side of her breast. I instantly grow hard at the familiarity of Rue’s body against mine. I drag my fingers back up her arm until I find her, weaving our fingers together and pulling her arms around my neck.
I nuzzle my nose against that tender scentless spot and she whimpers with need. I know that sound…. Where do I know that sound from? My hands find her waist as I barely graze her jaw with tender kisses, craving the taste of her. I grind my erection against her stomach as a low growl climbs out of my lungs, Rue gulps in a deep breath, her hips rotating slightly toward me. She moans when I kiss the corner of her mouth, and I about

lose it.
I cupped her jaw, pulling back to meet her hooded eyes. Rue looked at me with such softness and reverence that I couldn’t breathe; I was so lost. Lost in her vortex, the craving for her taste and touch, I couldn’t move. Rue opened her mouth to say something, but instead, her lips landed on mine, and I was found. I turned my head to deepen the
kiss.
A gasp sounds from down the hall, causing me to jerk back, turning toward the sound. Rue takes this opportunity to knee me with all her strength. Pain erupts from my balls all the way to my throat as vomit threatens to eject itself. I fall back against the opposing wall. Rue’s face was beet red as her fingertips touched her lips. She gives me a small regretful look, “I’m sorry.”
Then I watch in agony as she runs off. Next is a blur of a woman I can barely see through the pain.
