Linda seemed oblivious to Owen’s sarcasm. “Mr. Owen, you misunderstand. Jackson has always held Ms. Saunders in high esteem. Otherwise he wouldn’t have sent the engagement gifts himself.”
That made sense. Owen’s expression softened slightly. Maybe Jensen and Paul had other arrangements, and Linda was just the
messenger.
After all, Paul was the Powell family’s sole heir; they wouldn’t let his wedding be anything less than extravagant.
Then Linda looked around and asked curiously, “Aren’t there two young ladies in the Saunders family? Where’s the other one?”
Only then did Owen remember Yunice. He turned to Giana.
Giana shook her head. “Yunice didn’t come home…”
Owen frowned. “She’s still not back?”

Hearing this, Linda’s eyebrows furrowed in displeasure. “That’s not good enough. How can she not be here?”
Owen waved her off. “My sister is jealous by nature. Seeing these gifts would only set her off. It’s better she’s not here.”
Linda’s frown deepened. “But how can the wedding go on without her?”
Owen missed the implication, assuming she was merely annoyed by the incomplete family presence. “I decide my sister’s marital affairs. When I say it’s done, it’s done.”
Lily nodded in agreement. “Exactly. As the eldest brother, Owen has the final say in Elsie’s marriage.”
Linda’s eyes flickered before she finally agreed. “Well.”
She motioned to the butler. “Leave the engagement gifts here as a token of our agreement. The next time we meet, I hope it will be at Ms. Saunders wedding.”
Elsie lowered her head her lips curling into a shy smile.
After saying goodbye to Linda, the family closed the door behind them.
Owen declared triumphantly, “The Powells will probably have the wedding soon.”
Elsie beamed as Lily carefully examined the gifts, each one exquisite, as expected from the Powells.
Owen paid them little attention. A thought occurred to him, and he turned to Giana. “How long has Yunice been gone?”
Giana counted on her fingers. “She left yesterday morning and hasn’t come back since.”
Owen scoffed. “She’s getting more and more unruly every day. Who knows what she’s doing out there?“.
Elsie feigned concern. “Owen, maybe we should go look for her. I’d love to have Yunice at my wedding. Her blessing would
mean so much to me.”
Owen sighed. “She’s not like you, kindhearted. I don’t expect her blessing. I just hope she doesn’t cause any trouble.”
Still, he added cautiously, “But we’d better find her. The last thing we need is a scandal to ruin your wedding.”
The search lasted well into the night, but Yunice was nowhere to be found.
Owen finally called Paul, asking him. “Hadn’t Yunice mentioned that Margaret had a friend who would take her in?”

But Paul knew there was no such friend.
As he wondered where Yunice could be, Wyatt came to mind.
Wyatt had just been disciplined by Jackson and hospitalized. Was Yunice looking after him?
The thought of Yunice doting on Wyatt made Paul’s stomach churn with jealousy.
She wouldn’t even put ointment on me, yet she eagerly served that cripple?
How pathetic.
Paul grabbed his jacket and headed out, growling into the phone, “I’ll find her myself.
After hanging up, he rushed to Silverburgh Hospital.
In Wyatt’s room, he pushed past Jordan, who tried to stop him, and kicked the door open.
Wyatt sat on the bed, his gaze icy as it landed on Paul.
I’d warned him before, don’t fall into my hands again.
Paul ignored the threat. Scanning the room and finding no one, he stormed into the bathroom and checked every possible hiding place. Still no Yunice.
He marched back to Wyatt and demanded, “Where are you hiding Yunice?”
Jordan rushed in and tugged at Paul. “Yunice isn’t here!” Paul shook him off, fixating on Wyatt. “We’ve searched all of
Silverburgh. If she’s not with you, where else would she be?”
Wyatt’s voice was cold. “Yunice is missing?”
Without waiting for an answer, he grabbed his cane and swung his injured leg off the bed.
Jordan frowned. “Wyatt! Let me do this. You shouldn’t be moving around…”
Paul finally realized that Yunice really wasn’t here. But where else could she be?
If Wyatt didn’t have her, I’d look somewhere else.
Just as he turned to leave, Wyatt’s voice cut through the air.
“Hold him.”
