Chapter 8
“Griffin Hayes, I already paid you last night,” I said, straightening my clothes and trying to sound casual. “We’re even.”
He came up behind me, his breath hot against my ear. “Sugar mama, wasn’t I worth the price? Should I give you a refund?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Fine. You were… impressive. I’ve never experienced anything quite like that.”
His ego properly stroked, he grinned. “Then why are you still planning to marry Dom Reid? Don’t you know he’s made you the laughingstock of the entire tech industry? Everyone’s talking about his affair with that actress.”
“None of your business,” I snapped, suddenly remembering my proposal. I reached for my bag, searching frantically. “Where’s my—”
“Looking for this?” Griffin lounged against the booth wall, shirt unbuttoned to reveal his ridiculous abs. He waved my proposal document lazily. “I’ll sign it, but I
have one condition.”
I calmly straightened my skirt, more collected than he expected. “What you wanted, you just got. Whether you sign or not is entirely your choice.”
I was 29, not some wide–eyed college graduate. Adult relationships were just chemical reactions driven by hormones. A momentary impulse was fine, but long- term, they either evolved into something real or ended in mutual disgust. Having just escaped one toxic relationship, I didn’t need another complicated situation with a privileged playboy, no matter how mind–blowing the sex was. Seeing I was about to leave, Griffin quickly scrawled his signature on the
document.
“You’re taking advantage of the fact that I’m crazy about you,” he said, handing it
back.
Mission accomplished, I leaned down and placed a chaste kiss on his cheek.
“Thanks, old classmate. You’re the best.”
Before I could pull away, he caught me by the waist and lifted me onto his lap. “It’s barely midnight. Join me in the shower back at my place.”
At his penthouse, the massive marble shower steamed up instantly. Under the hot

spray, his hands roamed my body as he backed me against the cool tile wall. “Break up with Reid,” he commanded between kisses that left me dizzy. “Don’t make me drag you to city hall and marry you myself.”
