Chapter 14

Dom was forced to marry Vanessa under pressure from his conservative parents and their church community

Their wedding was a pathetic affair at the courthouse. A cheating groom and his pregnant mistress weren’t exactly the dream wedding material that got featured in

Vogue

According to Megan, Vanessa complained constantly about their lack of a proper ceremony, comparing it to what would have been my lavish wedding. This irritated Dom so much that he left her at the reception, disappearing for three days. She became a social media laughingstock, with #VanessaTheHomewrecker trending for weeks

One evening as I was leaving Reid Media Group (soon to be renamed), I spotted Dom waiting by my car in the parking garage

Long time no see. Got a minute to talk?he asked, leaning against his Porsche with all the windows down, watching me approach.

It had been nearly three months since our last encounter at the shareholders‘

meeting. He looked terriblethin, unshaven, with dark circles under his eyes

Married life clearly wasn’t agreeing with him

I smiled coolly. Sorry, I’ve got dinner plans. Some of us have lives to get back to.”

I miss you, Liv.”

Dom climbed out of his car and suddenly pulled me against him. I heard you went

to Bora Bora to recover. I’ve been waiting every day for you to come back”

My fist was already clenched. I swung hard, connecting with his right cheek with a satisfying crack

He released me instantly, touching his face in shock

How pathetic can you get, Dom Reid?I spat.

I expected him to lash outI had my phone ready to call security

Instead, he touched his reddening cheek and gave me a disturbing smile

I glanced around nervously, making sure the garage security cameras were recording

Liv,” he said in an eerily calm voice. I know you still love me. Don’t worry about

Vanessaafter the baby comes, I’ll divorce her. You’re the only woman I’ve ever wanted to spend my life with. We’ll take the babyyou can be its mother. What is wrong with you?I shouted, genuinely appalled

I held up my left hand, flashing my enormous diamond ring. Dom Reid, who do you think you are? Did you think I spent the last two months crying over you?

Open your eyesthis is a wedding ring. I wasn’t recovering‘—I was on my

honeymoon.”

You’re lying,he said flatly. No one would marry you that quickly.”
