Chapter 47
Deborah didn’t know how to answer that question. Fortunately, Damian didn’t press her
any further.
Not far ahead, there was a small river. After gathering some herbs, Deborah helped Damian to the riverbank, where they sat down.
She tore a piece of her sleeve, dipped it in the river to clean it, and then returned to his side, kneeling down carefully to clean his wounds.
After that, she applied the medicine, tore a piece of her skirt into strips, and used them to bandage his injuries.
“Your Highness, you’re covered in wounds,” she said.
“It’s nothing,” Damian answered, thinking, ‘As long as there’s no more bleeding, it won’t scare you. A few minor injuries don’t bother me.‘
Deborah bit her lip, gazing at his pale face. Despite how bad he looked, he still seemed alert and full of energy.
“Does it hurt?”
“What do you think?” Of course it hurt. He wasn’t dead, after all. But he didn’t want to worry her, so he didn’t even dare to furrow his brow.
Damian glanced around, taking in his surroundings. This place wasn’t exactly a bottomless pit–just the base of a cliff. But it was still steep, and looking up, he couldn’t see what was above.
“We’ll need to find a way up. We should hurry back so the imperial physician can treat your wounds.” Deborah glanced at the cliff above them.
Damian nodded and tried to stand. As he did, a slight grimace crossed his face, and his brow furrowed from the pain.
“Is it really that painful?” Deborah stood beside him, her eyes once again drawn to his shoulder.
After a long pause, she whispered, “I’m sorry…”
“Not feeling wronged?” Damian glanced down at her. Her face was still pale, clearly showing that she had been terrified.
Deborah looked up at him, wanting to say something, but in the end, the words stuck in her throat. She thought, What can I say? That he should stop acting out, stop tormenting me?‘
She was Simon’s wife, and Damian and her relationship had long crossed the line between brother–in–law and sister–in–law. He had seen her… completely exposed, more than once.
“What were you going to say?” Damian looked down at her face, which was growing paler by the second.
Deborah’s expression darkened. “Your Highness, could you… in the future…”
“You think I can?” Damian smirked.
Deborah shot him a glare. “I haven’t even said anything yet, how do you know what I’m going to say?”
She thought, ‘Is he always like this? Can’t he allow anyone to make a request?‘
Damian turned and began walking slowly along the path at the bottom of the cliff. “You want me to stop bullying you in the future?”
“Yeah!” Deborah’s eyes brightened, and she quickly caught up to him. “After all, I’m Si…”
“What?” He suddenly stopped, turned around, and stared at her intently. “What did I warn you about before?”
Deborah bit her lip hard and glared at him.
She remembered. He had warned her that if she ever said, “I’m Simon’s wife,” he would force her. But…
“I’m just stating the truth,” she muttered.
When he suddenly turned to glare at her, Deborah stepped back in a panic. “I won’t say it! I… ah!”
She didn’t realize she stepped on something and slipped.
As she started to fall, Damian quickly turned and grabbed her, preventing her from tumbling to the ground. “You…”
“My foot hurts!” Deborah winced, clutching her foot. It felt like she had twisted her ankle.

Damian sighed in exasperation. The ground here was flat and safe, so he hadn’t stayed by her side. But she still managed to hurt herself.
With her scatterbrained nature, if he ever left her alone in the wilderness, she probably wouldn’t survive. He wondered, ‘What would happen to her if I weren’t around? How would she manage on her own?‘
