Chapter 53
Luann came to summon Deborah, saying that Emily wanted to see her.
Zyla was particularly nervous because, the last time Luann had sent someone to capture the assassin, she had completely looked down upon Deborah.
For Zyla, anyone connected to Emily was someone to be cautious of.
Zyla helped Deborah to her feet and guided her over.
Though Deborah’s ankle had improved a lot since yesterday, it still hurt. She was walking with a noticeable limp.
“Why are you limping, my dear?” Emily, sitting comfortably in a chair, fixed her gaze on Deborah’s injured foot.
Her face was calm and serene, giving no indication of surprise, as though she had already known everything.
With Zyla’s help, Deborah walked over and curtsied. “Mother. It’s just a sprained ankle, a minor injury. It will heal in a few days.”
Emily nodded and gestured for her to sit.
Now that you are the lady of Damian’s estate, you and your sister–in–law will have to manage the affairs of the house together.”
“Sister–in–law?” Deborah was caught off guard by the sudden mention of this.
Emily smiled, her expression unaffected. “Yes, I’ve called you here today to discuss the matter of selecting a wife for Damian.”
Deborah thought, ‘Selecting a wife!‘ There were two princes in Damian’s estate. Simon had just married a few days ago, but this selection was clearly for Damian.
“Deborah, take a look at these. This one is the daughter of the Prime Minister, this one is the granddaughter of the Duke of State, and this one is…”
Emily motioned for someone to bring over a set of portraits, which were then placed before Deborah.
She smiled and continued, “This one is the daughter of General Raleigh, skilled in both the arts and martial prowess. Which one do you think would be the best match for Damian?”
Deborah’s fingers tightened imperceptibly under her sleeve. A faint, forced smile tugged at her pale lips.
“His Highness is Simon’s elder brother. As for his marriage, Mother, you should decide. I wouldn’t dare speak out of turn.”
Selecting a wife for Damian… for some reason, she had an unsettling feeling that he would be angry with her if she got involved. So, she decided to keep her thoughts to herself.
“That won’t do. You’re now half the lady of Damian’s estate. In the future, you and your sister–in–law will manage the affairs of the house together.”
Emily’s sharp gaze seemed to pierce through her, filled with hidden meaning.
But her smile remained gentle and composed. “You need to choose someone you approve of, so you two can get along well in the future.”
Emily’s gaze suddenly shifted past Deborah and landed on the door of the side hall. “Ah, Damian is here.”
This was the first time Deborah had seen Damian since returning from the hunting grounds.
He entered, still dressed in his signature dark robes, his tall, lean figure radiating an air of mystery. From the moment he stepped in, even Deborah could feel the temperature in the room drop a few degrees.
“Your Highness, how are you feeling?” she asked softly.
Her voice was neutral, with no hint of anything unusual–just the tone of someone asking after their older brother’s health.
Damian gave a curt reply, his face expressionless, “Much better.”
“That’s good.” Deborah lowered her eyes, not looking at him any longer, instead focusing on the portraits before her.
Emily, seeing that Damian no longer looked as pale as he had the night before, finally felt some relief.
She immediately turned to Deborah, her tone calm but probing. “So, what do you think? Which of these young ladies do you think is most suited to
Damian?”

Chapter 53
Deborah smiled faintly, but it was hard to tell if her smile was genuine or forced.
She turned her attention to Damian. “I think it’s best to ask His Highness directly.”
With a gesture, she handed the portraits to Zyla, who quickly delivered them to Damian.
Damian’s cold, impassive gaze swept over Deborah’s face as he took the portraits. “You’re choosing a wife for me?”
“Mother asked me to look at the portraits, but I think it’s something you should decide for yourself. I don’t have the right to make such decisions…”
Damian’s eyes
darkened, and his voice dropped to an icy tone. “Since you know you have no right, why bother coming here?”
