Chapter 4
He had a scruffy beard, looking utterly worn out, as if he’d lived through two centuries.
The moment he saw her, he stormed over and grabbed her shoulders tightly.
“Where the hell have you been? Two days without a trace. Do you know I’ve turned the whole city upside down looking for you?”
Cynthia calmly pushed him away, her voice cold and distant.
“We’re about to get divorced. I don’t owe you any explanations about where I go.”
If he really cared, he would’ve noticed how thin and weak she’d become over the past two days from being sick.
Seeing her silence, Zaiden asked, “Are you mad because of Belinda?”
Cynthia gave a faint smile. “No. Belinda has explained everything clearly. My reputation isn’t important.”
Talready cleared things up. It wasn’t you who had a miscarriage. I said I was feeling unwell, and you came with me to the hospital for checkups. Look.”
Zaiden pulled out his phone and showed her the latest trending news,
For some reason, looking at Cynthia’s frighteningly calm face made Zaiden uneasy.
She didn’t even glance at the phone, her expression still distant.“Oh, I see.”
Zaiden, feeling guilty, placed a gift box in front of her that he had prepared long ago.
“I know you’re still angry. None of this was what I wanted to happen right after we got married. I just hope this can be behind
Cynthia took the box.
Zaiden’s expression softened considerably.
“I miss your cooking. I’ll go clean up, and we’ll eat together later,”
With that, he went upstairs.
Cynthia glanced at the box. It was transparent on top, revealing a delicate bracelet sparkling with diamonds inside, but it wasn’t the style she liked.
She set the box down on the coffee table and went upstairs.
She went back to packing. After they married, she had moved all her things in, thinking they would spend their lives together.
But their wedding day shattered that dream.
Sooner or later, another woman would take her place. To avoid her things being callously thrown out, it was better to take them away herself.
Her phone rang. It was Kendall again, updating her about work.
After hanging up, Cynthia was about to turn off her phone but accidentally opened Instagram, it was a post from Belinda.
“Having you is the best thing I could imagine. Love you the most.”
The photo below showed the exact same bracelet Zaiden had given Cynthia with the same box and decorative bow.
They said men who cheated prepare gifts for their mistresses, often matching the ones they give their wives.
Cynthia had doubted it before, but now it seemed true.
Chapter 4
lelinda’s good looks had quickly made her popular, and she soon became a sensation.
lut tragedy struck their family four years ago. Her father jumped off a building after his company went under. Her mother ouldn’t bear the shock and committed suicide.
lefore her mother passed, she entrusted Belinda to Zaiden’s family. That was when their contact began.
ielinda’s mother had once saved Zaiden when he was little, so even though Cynthia knew they were in touch, she tried to he nderstanding.
lut Belinda kept pushing boundaries, deliberately calling Zaiden away on every important holiday and event..
What was worse, they always referred to each other as brother and sister, but their actions were anything but innocent.
Cynthia packed a few more things and went downstairs.
isa happened to see her and stepped forward to stop her.
Mrs. Gwinnett, what are you doing?”
Mrs.
Cynthia forced a weak smile. “Lisa, I still have some things here. Could you help me pack them when you have time? Send me a nessage when it’s done, and I’ll have someone come pick them up.”
But…” Lisa wanted to say more, but Cynthia didn’t give her a chance. She left.
long
after the car drove off, Zaiden came out of the shower.
His hair was freshly blow–dried, smooth and flowing, making him look much more refreshed.
Lisa, what’s going on?”
Lisa rubbed her temple wearily.“Mrs. Gwinnett took her things and left. Look…
Zaiden came down the stairs, wearing a grey silk loungewear set that looked extremely high–end.
He grabbed the box from the table without opening it and threw it straight into the trash bin
He even bought her a gift to make peace, but she still wasn’t satisfied!
If she wants to leave, let her go.”
But…” Lisa wanted to say something more, but Zaiden was already heading upstairs.
She sighed in frustration.
Living at the company wasn’t an option. Fortunately, Cynthia had saved a bit of money over the years. She couldn’t afford to buy a house yet, but renting a decent apartment was possible.
She signed the lease with an agent, then called her best friend Giovanna Ferguson to meet her at the new place.
Giovanna was stunning, dangerously beautiful. She loved big, bouncy curls and usually wore somewhat heavy makeup.
She always seemed seductive, but only Cynthia knew she was actually sweet and a bit goofy.
As soon as Giovanna walked in, she looked around Cynthia’s new home.
“Not bad, girl! This new place of yours is really nice. I’m tempted to move in myself.”
“Well, if you want to live with me, I promise I won’t charge you rent.”
Giovanna wrapped her arms around Cynthia.“Really? You sure you wanna move out of his place?”
Cynthia smiled faintly, without warmth.“What else can I do? He doesn’t love me. No matter how hard I try, it’s useless. Perhaps

it is a better thing to let him go. By the way, thank you for being with me when I needed support most.”
Don’t mention it. We’re besties. If I hadn’t been busy with work these past few days, I would’ve come sooner. Now that I see you’ve made peace with it, I’m relieved. Trust me, your life will be better.”
Cynthia nodded.
“By the way, what about your mom…”
I’m not planning to tell her for now. Can you keep it from her?”
“Got it! Here, let me help you unpack and decorate your new place. Giovanna took her luggage and started unpacking.
Cynthia didn’t hesitate to accept her help.
She glanced at the time, it was getting late.
“What do you want to eat? Whatever you want, it’s on me tonight.”
vanna didn’t hold back. “Well, if you’re paying. I’m absolutely ordering the most expensive thing. Take me to that 2–star Michelin place.“,
Let’s go.”
Just as they were about to leave, Giovanna’s phone rang.
