Chapter 18
Clash With The Bitch
Noelle’s Pov
I woke up to the sun warming my skin and Vernon’s arms wrapped tightly around my waist.
“You’re staring again,” I murmured.
He smirked, voice low and rough. “Last night was the first time I had you sober.”
I laughed, burying my face in the pillow. “And?”
“And I think I’ll ruin any man that tries to have you after me.”
I rolled my eyes. “Possessive much?”

He kissed my shoulder. “Only about you.”
We stayed in bed a little longer before Vernon sat up, brushing my hair from my face.
“Your debut is tomorrow, my love. You need the perfect dress. I want you to stop by one of my boutiques and pick anything you want. No limit.”
“Anything?”
“Everything, if you want.”
I grinned. “I only need one.”
After a quick shower, we found our way to the kitchen.
Vernon insisted on making breakfast.

pale blue that shimmered with every angle. My fingers grazed the fabric–and another hand touched it at the same time.
“I want that,” a voice snapped.
I turned, and my smile vanished.
Jocelyn.
“You again?” I muttered.
She looked me up and down. “Noelle? What are you doing in D.C.? Lost your way to the charity shops?”
“Still obsessed with me, Jocelyn? Can’t breathe unless you’re in my shadow?”
“Don’t flatter yourself. I didn’t expect to see you in a place like this. This boutique isn’t exactly… your tax bracket.”

I rolled my eyes. “I want the dress.”
“Too bad. I’m buying it for double the price. Package it,” she snapped at the salesgirl.
“You’re doubling the price, right? Just to prove you can?” I asked, folding my arms. “Exactly.”
I shrugged. “Go ahead.”
Jocelyn raised a brow, obviously expecting me to whine or protest. I just stared at her.
“Where did you go after you left Christopher?” she asked.
“Why do you care?”
“Just curious if you crawled into some ditch.
Or rehab.”

“That’s rich. Coming from a fraud who can’t design a paper bag.”
Her nostrils flared. “Still bitter about Christopher?”
“You can have him. I’m not into trash.”
“Funny, because you were married to him. Secretly.”
“And you slept with him while planning my death. What does that make you?”
“That makes me his one true love. It’s not my fault you’re so naive and nobody wants you,” Jocelyn mocked.
I glared at her and all I could see was how she had ruined my life.

First, her mom entered and killed my mother. Now she’s the reason why James is dead, and she also ruined his ashes.
I vowed that I would make sure Jocelyn suffers for what she’s done to me and my brother.
“You ruined me, Jocelyn,” the words slid out of my lips.
Jocelyn merely shrugged as she grinned, “It’s not my fault I’m more sensible than you, Noelle.”
The silence thickened.
Jocelyn scoffed, pulled out her card, and handed it to the cashier. “Double the price.”
I glanced at her, “Are you sure you want to do that? Don’t go bankrupt because of a dress.”

Jocelyn was still outside, waiting for her driver. She turned when she saw me walk back into the store.
“Still drooling over my dress?”
The cashier smiled at me. “Mrs. Walters, we’ve been instructed to hand this to you.”
She handed me the same wrapped dress.
Jocelyn’s jaw dropped. “What the hell? I paid for that!”
“Correction, the cashier said politely. “The owner retracted your purchase and ordered we deliver it to Noelle.”
