Chapter 5
Noah was sure I didn’t genuinely want to give them away!
Caleb scoffed.“She’s just venting her frustrations this way. We all know it. Alice, when will you ever grow up and be like Chloe?”
I remained expressionless. “These gifts are worth tens of millions. As an apology, I just want to know if this is enough. Caleb, you wouldn’t be reluctant, would you?”
Caleb choked on his words; could this even be compared?
In front of Chloe, he stammered, “Am I that kind of person?”
“Then let’s make it official; these gifts will serve as compensation.”
Noah was somewhat annoyed.“Alice, stop this nonsense!”
How could I give away these precious gifts? Even if I was upset with Caleb, I couldn’t give away their gifts too!
“Noah, do I look like I’m joking?” I thrust the platter into Chloe’s hands. “These are all yours now.” Including my six brothers. I didn’t want any of them.
Chloe’s expression turned awkward; she sensed that Noah and Caleb seemed a bit displeased.
Holding the box, Chloe felt her palms heat up; she hadn’t expected me to use these as an apology, catching her off guard. If this wasn’t handled well, it would surely provoke the brothers‘ resentment. Why had I suddenly become so difficult to deal with?
Without waiting for Chloe to respond, I turned and left.
“Alice, stop right there!” Caleb was enraged.
I was using his gift as an apology–what kind of apology was that? But I walked away without looking back.
Noah frowned.“Alice is becoming increasingly unmanageable!”
He felt uncomfortable; the jade pendant he had given me was something he bought after earning his first big paycheck, and it held a different meaning.
Caleb felt like he’d punched a pillow, utterly frustrated.“I agree. She did this on purpose to annoy us.”
Chloe listened to their conversation, gritting her teeth.
My strategy worked; she couldn’t let that woman succeed.
Holding the platter, Chloe said feebly, “Noah, Caleb, did I do something wrong again? How could I accept Alice’s most treasured items? What should I do?” Damn Alice, digging her grave!
Caleb’s face was stern.“Since it’s her apology, just keep it! I bet she’ll regret it in three days.” He couldn’t wait to see my regret and would definitely mock
me then.
Noah spoke gently.“How about this, Chloe? You keep the box for now; once she calms down, it will be fine.” I had thrown tantrums before, and things always worked out. He didn’t believe I would truly give up these gifts.
“Okay, I’ll take good care of them.” Chloe gave a gentle, obedient smile.
Noah sighed. I used to be so sweet and obedient. He hoped I would mature soon. Looking at the compliant Chloe, he felt a twinge of relief. At least
Chloe wasn’t like that.
After I returned to my room alone and lay down, I felt a bit chilly from the water incident and was dizzy. I closed my eyes as soon as I lay down. I needed to figure out how to leave the Welch family and build my own life.
In my past life, after the college entrance exam, my grades were good enough to apply to a prestigious university, but because of my fourth brother’s words, I ended up applying to Chloe’s second–tier school. I’d been Chloe’s maid, taking the blame for all her mistakes. If I misbehaved, my credit card would be frozen. Despite being a rich young lady, I lived worse than a poor student.
In the end, Chloe even stole my hard–earned thesis, framing me for plagiarism, which led to my expulsion from school.
This time, I absolutely wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes. I was determined to attend a prestigious school! As for tuition and living expenses, I could participate in competitive gaming tournaments to earn prize money. With my gaming skills from my past life, I should still be able to make a living from
After the banquet, Noah approached the bedroom on the second floor. He hesitated before knocking on the door, but there was no response from inside. The door was locked.
Noah worried, are you sick?”
