Chapter 19
Chloe blushed.“Sorry, teacher, I won’t do it again.”
A follower of Chloe spoke up. Teacher, Alice has been studying hard. She must know the answer.”
Now everyone turned to me, most of them waiting for a laugh. After all, I usually scored lower than Chloe and probably wouldn’t be able to answer either.
But I stood up and answered correctly.
The teacher was surprised.“Correct! Alice has been working hard lately. Everyone should learn from her and not slack off.”
Chloe shot a glance at me, filled with resentment. If it weren’t for the game taking up her time, she would have definitely answered correctly. I had stolen her spotlight. She had to catch up.
After being praised, I felt much better. After school, I didn’t go to the infirmary this time but headed straight home to avoid my second brother catching
- on.
Sure enough, after I returned, the butler kept a close watch on me, making me feel uneasy. After dinner, I went straight to my room, locking the door behind me, finally feeling a bit more relaxed.
While doing my homework, I took out my phone. I was torn about whether to message Jack, especially since I hadn’t gone to see him today. But it seemed he wasn’t waiting for me; I was always the one pushing myself to go.
Should I text him? Or wait?
put down
my phone and started my homework, but soon my eyelids began to droop, probably from staying up all night. I leaned on the desk, intending to take a quick nap, but accidentally fell asleep.
The next day, I was awakened by my alarm clock. I glanced at the time, surprised it was already morning. I packed my homework and rushed downstairs, hurrying to school.
At noon, I hesitated for a moment before heading to the infirmary. But I didn’t see Jack, so I mustered the courage to ask the doctor inside, “Where’s Dr. Wilson?”
“He’s at lunch.”
I nodded, planning to come back after school to find him.
After school that afternoon, I went to the infirmary again, but still didn’t see Jack; it was the same doctor from earlier. “Girl, I’m on duty today. Focus on your studies. It’s too early for you to be thinking of these things.”
I blushed but didn’t explain. In the following days, I secretly went to the infirmary but never saw Jack. For a moment, I felt a bit down, having gotten used to him being there waiting for me.
I realized I had started to depend on Jack.
I quickly adjusted my emotions; I absolutely couldn’t rely on anyone else. I had to rely on myself in this life.
I calmed down and prepared wholeheartedly for the upcoming month
exam.
I couldn’t fail.
After the exam, I felt I had done well. I should be able to make it into the top hundred. But everyone was complaining, saying the questions were a bit tough.
I pulled out my phone to text Jack, but in the end, I didn’t know what to send, It seemed we weren’t that close.
I struggled with my social skills, feeling frustrated as I shut my phone.
In a good mood, I packed my bag and returned home, only to find the living room bustling with activity. My brothers were all back, surprisingly not at the training camp?
When I appeared, the living room fell silent. It was as if I were the uninvited guest, interrupting the joy of my brothers and Chloe’s family.
