Chapter 21
Weird!
Meanwhile, Jack looked at the message he received, narrowing his eyes slightly.
“Jack, who’s texting you?”
Jack locked his phone.
Andrew raised an eyebrow.“Judging by the profile picture, it’s a girl. Could it be that girl you helped the other day, the one named…Alice, right?”
“You talk too much.”
“I know you’re hiding something. You were working overtime at the infirmary all last week, then suddenly stopped. You’ve been sulking these days; did you have a falling out with her?”
Jack turned his head, his eyes dangerous.“Don’t be curious about my business.”
“We grew up together! There’s nothing I don’t know about you. Stop pretending!”
Jack took his phone to the balcony. He looked down at the chat. In my eyes, was the infirmary a secret base? He instinctively smiled, opening my Moments. It was mostly casual shares, very girly. After a while, he suddenly realized he had lingered too long on my profile; it felt a bit out of control.
Jack exited the chat and went back inside.
I waited all day but received no reply. Was he mad? I didn’t dare message him again, deciding to wait until Monday when the exam results came out.
The entire weekend, I stayed home studying. Chloe and the brothers didn’t come back either; they were staying at the training camp.
–Monday morning.
I went downstairs and finally saw Chloe and my brothers. They were laughing and chatting, clearly closer than ever. I said nothing, heading straight to the dining room for breakfast.
Luke’s tone dripped with sarcasm.“Results are out today, right?”
I nodded. “Yes.”
wwwwwwww
“I told you to join the team. With your grades, you won’t get into any good college anyway. Instead of wasting time studying, you might as well train to be a pro gamer. With the resources the Welch family provides, becoming famous is only a matter of time. Too bad you didn’t seize that chance; now Chloe has it.”
I remembered the humiliation of being replaced in my past life.
I replied calmly, “I don’t care.”
After grabbing breakfast, I left the hall.
Seeing my indifferent demeanor, Luke was furious.“I can’t wait to see her ‘great results‘.”
Chloe, seeing I hadn’t agreed to join the team, breathed a sigh of relief. She knew I was naturally talented at gaming; if I joined, she’d be out of a spot! But she still smiled and said, “Luke, don’t be angry. Alice is just throwing a tantrum. Once she agrees to join the team, I’ll gladly give her my spot.”
Luke nodded approvingly. “You’re the most understanding!”
The smile on Chloe’s face faltered; she was deeply resentful. She’d been practicing furiously to gain Luke’s approval, only to find that he still seemed to think I was better. She made a silent vow to achieve success in gaming, to crush Luke’s desire for me to join the team.
Luke looked worried; the revival match was crucial, and if they lost, there would be no second chances.
Although Chloe was trying hard, her gaming talent just wasn’t enough.
With only a month left until the revival match, Chloe’s skills were nowhere near sufficient.
To beat that kid from the Wilson family, they needed someone with real skill!
And I was the only one.
But he couldn’t bring himself to beg me.
For years, I had revolved around him, timidly trying to please him.
He was so used to our sibling dynamic that he couldn’t change it overnight.
How long was I going to throw a tantrum?

Did I have to force him to back down?
