Megan couldn’t help feeling sorry for her cousin, but there was nothing she could do.
“Cousin, from the
way you’re acting… does that mean Aurora still hasn’t woken up?”
The moment she said it, Lucas‘ temper flared.
He’d been telling himself every single day that she’d wake up soon, that everything would be fine, that there was no need to worry.
But the truth was, he’d just been lying to himself.
And now Megan had gone and stabbed straight into the most painful part of him, without even knowing it.
Lucas‘ expression darkened completely. He didn’t even feel like answering her.
Leonard, standing nearby, spoke up again. “What is your deal? We came all this way, and now you’re saying we can’t even see her?”
Just saying it out loud made his anger rise again.
After everything that had happened, Lucas still showed no sign of guilt.
It was infuriating.
“You said you’d take good care of her. And now look at her. Look at this mess.”
The more Leonard stared at Lucas‘ cold and unreadable face, the harder it became to hold back.
“So what is it with you, huh? Even now, after everything, you still don’t feel the slightest bit of regret?”
That last line pushed Lucas over the edge.
“If you don’t know what you’re talking about, then shut up,” he snapped.

His brows drew together tightly, his voice low and dangerous, boiling beneath the surface.
The way Leonard stood there so unfazed only made him angrier.
Then he turned on Megan. “I told you not to bring people like this. What are you thinking? Do you never learn?”
His voice suddenly shot up, sharp and loud.
A few people in the hallway began to gather, drawn by the raised voices.
Scenes like this weren’t common in the hospital, and with two strikingly handsome men arguing, curiosity flared instantly.
What could have two good–looking guys this worked up?
The crowd was all ears.
So, a crowd began forming around the hospital room, layer after layer.
When Jason stepped out and saw the scene, he froze on the spot.
Even the urge to pee that had built up moments ago vanished in an instant.
What the hell was going on? He’d just been inside reviewing data.
How had the hallway turned into a circus so fast?
Jason swallowed hard, his eyes widening.
He had no idea how to handle what he was seeing.
Megan, still reeling from Lucas‘ outburst, felt even more wronged.
Back home, she’d been treated like a little princess.
Why was she suddenly being spoken to like this? It wasn’t right.
“Lucas, Mr. Leonard isn’t some shady person. He’s Aurora’s friend and her business partner too. He…”
“Enough!”
Lucas‘ jaw clenched, a vein throbbing visibly at his temple.

He was already on edge, and hearing Megan defend Leonard only pushed him further.
And with this entire crowd gathered outside the room, Lucas‘ patience snapped.
He glanced around, his brows knitting together. Had he been too lenient lately?
Was that why people thought they could walk all over him?
“Don’t you people have anything better to do?”
The words landed like a slap, and Megan’s heart sank.
She glanced around at the ring of onlookers, some even holding up their phones, and panic took hold.
She had no idea what to do next.
