Chapter 22 Wanting to Meet Her
Ethan didn’t care what Hudson thought. As soon as he thought about Hudson wanting to meet Eleanor, his lips naturally curled into a smile.
To Hudson, though, it meant something entirely different.
If Ethan had really taken a liking to Eleanor, it would cause a huge problem. Rather than let this become more complicated, it would be better to nip it in the bud.
At the hospital, by Gabriel’s bedside.
Laura clutched his and Sienna’s hands, her voice filled with tears.
“Garrett, listen to me. Marry Sienna and bring some luck to the family, just as a way to improve your health. Look at your injury…”
Laura paused, her eyes red with emotion.
Gabriel sighed. “The fire was caused by a short circuit. It was just a simple accident.”
“An accident means our family needs to improve our luck!” Laura’s pupils contracted at the mention of “fire,” and she quickly pulled him into a tight hug. “You’re my precious son. Of my two sons, I love you the most. Please, listen to me, consider marrying Sienna.”
Sienna, hearing the words “I love you the most,” nervously glanced at Gabriel.
Gabriel lowered his eyelashes, his thin lips tightly pressed together, his face pale.
Laura continued to talk to herself, “Gabriel may not be as considerate as you, but if it were him, I wouldn’t care at all. But you are the McKenzie family heir. Only if you marry Sienna will you be able to keep your position as heir.
As Laura’s partiality became obvious, Sienna’s scalp tingled with unease.
Seeing Gabriel with a gloomy face, she nearly rushed to cover Laura’s mouth.
She had only brought up the idea of marriage to improve the family’s luck, but she hadn’t expected Laura to expose her favoritism so openly.
When Garrett was around, he had been the most respected member of the McKenzie family, and Laura’s pride.
Sienna had to admit, someone like Garrett was indeed worthy of his parents‘ pride.
A perfect scholar, well–mannered, good–looking, and fair in handling things. He was practically the ideal son. Back then, Garrett, like Oscar from the Xander family, was a prominent figure in Newayne.
Gabriel, on the other hand, had almost no strengths except for causing trouble and being good–looking.
After Garrett’s death, Gabriel became the cold, ruthless, and strategic McKenzie family heir, but even then, in Laura’s eyes, he was still the same worthless Gabriel as before.
After losing her memory, Laura only had Garrett in her heart.
Upon realizing this harsh truth, Gabriel became much calmer.
In the past, he would have been hurt, but now, he had long since learned to let go.
Looking at his mom’s hopeful gaze, Gabriel thought of her diagnosis, and the words were on his lips, but in the end, he swallowed them.
Even though the rumors about him and Sienna had spread far and wide, he had never seriously considered marrying her.
But his mom didn’t have much time left.
And he would eventually have to divorce Eleanor.

he loved, it made no difference to who he married.
Suddenly, a weight pressed on his chest, making the bloodshot veins in his eyes even more apparent.
He cleared his throat, his voice a mix of deep warmth and suppression. “I’ll think about it.”
Hearing this, Sienna’s eyes welled up with tears.
Gabe said he would think about it!
Sienna’s momentary pity for him vanished and was replaced with joy.
But to Laura, these words didn’t sit well.
“Garrett, you and Sienna’s marriage is already settled, and the wedding is practically a done deal. What do you mean by ‘thinking about it?”
Sienna dared not speak.
She had forgotten that Laura had mistaken Gabriel for Garrett.
To avoid angering Gabriel and causing him to change his mind, Sienna affectionately grabbed Laura’s hand. “Madam Laura, Gabe… Garrett just got his life back. Let him rest a little. The wedding can wait.”
When Sienna said “Garrett,” she noticeably paused, feeling uneasy all over.
She didn’t dare meet Gabriel’s
gaze.
“Madam Laura, let me take you back to your room. I have something I want to talk to Garrett about privately.”
With her goal achieved, she feared Laura might say something else and thus proactively offered to escort her out.
Laura, still worried about her son, hesitated for a moment. “I’m not at ease with Garrett here. How about this, I’ll call Gabriel to come and take care of Garrett. After all, he’s always causing trouble at school, and it’s better if he looks after Garrett.”
