Seeing this topic wasn’t going well, Big Head quickly changed the subject. “You and Lucas have such a great relationship. I’ve never seen him so panicked before – his face went white! Lucas has always been so devoted to you, loving you all these years.”
“What do you mean loving me all these years?” I suddenly snapped to attention. “What about Lucas’s first love?”
“Isn’t that you?” Big Head looked at me like I was playing dumb. “Back when you got together with Max, Lucas was visibly depressed. He lost 20 pounds in a month.”
“When was I ever with Max? Wasn’t Lucas’s first love Bella White?”
I felt like my brain was short–circuiting.
Big Head’s expression was even more interesting. He stood up anxiously to explain.
“Who told you that? I had no idea. You and Lucas are childhood sweethearts – how could he fall for Bella? It was Max who said you two were together.”
I fell silent, thinking back. Who had told me Lucas had a first love?
“It must have been that bastard Max. He’s had his eye on you for a while, sis. He deliberately said you two were together to provoke Lucas. Thank goodness you ended up marrying Lucas in the end.”
A lightbulb went off in my head. I asked, “Was this thing about Max and me being together in June three years ago?”
“Yes, exactly! Lucas was in such a state back then, it left a deep impression on me.”
So that’s how it was. I finally remembered – when I had just returned from abroad, Max told me Lucas had an ideal lover named Bella White who had gone overseas.
He then told Lucas about my supposed relationship. Lucas became depressed every day, and I mistakenly thought he was pining for Bella.
It was all a lie.
“Max Shaw is bad news!”
I had wasted years of emotions, always worrying that when the first love returned, I’d have to step aside.
“I’m so glad you’ve realized this.”
Lucas walked in with the arnica oil just then. Big Head immediately made room for us.
Lucas poured some oil into his palm and gently massaged my bruised knee.
“Lucas, do you love me?” I asked.
I didn’t want to keep guessing. I wanted an honest answer.
“What do you think? Would I marry you if I didn’t love you? I work hard to make money so you can focus on being beautiful.”
Lucas fired back with two questions before lowering his head and mumbling very softly, “I don’t just love you. I’m in love with you.”
I watched Lucas’s ears turn bright red.
“What about you? Still thinking about divorcing me?” Lucas looked up at me. “Tell me you won’t divorce me, okay?”
It was rare to see him plead like this. I suddenly felt smug.
“We’ll see. If I’m in a good mood, I won’t think about it anymore.”
“Well, think it through carefully. After divorcing me, who will help you collect designer bags, cover your living expenses, let you lounge in the jacuzzi facing the ocean, and frequently take you on private jet shopping sprees around the world?”
This dog of a man was threatening me!

“In that case, I absolutely won’t think about it ever again.”
After all… I love you so much too.
