Chapter 7
The kiss was intense and they did it on the threshold of the hotel lobby. Skylar hit Anthony’s chest lightly with a grunt and Anthony laughed as he rubbed Skylar’s hips with his thumbs
“Sorry.” Anthony said softly. “It’s not just because your lips are so tempting, but because since we left Carter’s house, there have been two men in a black car following us.”
Skylar’s checks flushed. “What does that have to do with you kissing me?” Skylar asked in exasperation.
Because I think I know who sent those two men to follow us.” Anthony replied calmly. “So I might as well make things more exciting
“Who?” Skylar asked, looking back
Anthony grabbed her waist and led her to the elevator.
“David Lawrence, Anthony said. “I saw him talking on the phone, when we were leaving and there were two men behind us. One of them was on the phone and a moment later they got into the same car that was behind us the whole way?
“That jerk,” Skylar growled, clenching her fists. “I don’t know why he did that. I think someone had to knock him upside the head with a hammer to make him realize he wasn’t Carter yet and not interfere in my grandfather’s affairs.”
They went up to the 25th floor. Anthony had his own penthouse in the hotel and it was ready to be occupied whenever he came to Los Angeles.
Noah and Nile were already asleep when Skylar and Anthony arrived. Mrs. Ellis, the babysitter they had hired for their stay in Los Angeles, was cleaning the kitchen and when she was done she asked to go home, to come back the next morning.
Skylar cleaned herself up in her room and changed into comfortable clothes for bed. She went into the twins‘ room to check on them and kiss their foreheads one by one.
“Mom” Nile whispered. He opened his eyes half–open. Is Great Grandpa Aaron finished being buried?”
Skylar sat down on the side of Nile’s bed and wiped his damp forehead. Yes, he is. It was a beautiful ceremony and I think looking at Grandpa Aaron’s smiling face, I’m sure he died peacefully.”
“That’s nice,” Nile murmured. He pulled the covers Isigher and closed his eyes. “Im so sleepy. See you tomorrow, Mom. I love you,. Uncle Ton too”
“Good night, llaby Nile. I love you too,” replied Skylar while kissing Nile’s head.
Skylar came out of the room and approached Anthony who was making coffee in the kitchen. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee made the room fragrant
“Milk? Rum” asked Anthony while pouring coffee into a cup for Skylar.
“Kum, a little,” replied Skylar while sitting on the counter chair. “I need some energy to look at all the company documents that Mr Jenner gave
Anthony added three drops of run to the coffee for Skylar and himself, then sat down next to Skylar.
“What now,” Skylar said, looking at Anthony “This is a confusing situation. I never had any plans to come back and settle here again!
Anthony nodded. He knew that everything that happened this afternoon after the funeral, not only shook the entire Carter family, but was even more shocking for Skylur.
She and the twins only brought clothes for a week trip, because alse only came back to attend her grandfather’s funeral and then returned to Darwin
However, after learning about the contents of Aaron Carter’s will which handel over all his business affairs to Skylar, it was impossible to retum as they lad originally planned,
Fredy Jenner had said that after all the administrative and legal matters for the inheritance were completed, Skylar still had to hold meetings with the executives who led the company’s branches, shareholders, staff and employers, and important clients,
Tdou’t understand, why did grandpa give it all to me?” Skylar complained in confusion. “If he didn’t give me anything, that would be normal. I wasn’t there in his last moments. Or he just gave me the smallest branch company, that would still be normal. But, the whole chain of companies?”
Anthony stroked Skylar’s damp hair, which fell on her back
“You heard what Mr. Jenner said in the meeting earlier, right?” Anthony said softly. “He said that your grandfather actually knew about your existence, three years after you left. However, he never bothered you at all, right?”
“Do you think he did it on purpose! He knew and he just watched from afar!” Skylar asked, more to herself than to Anthony

“I think so,” Anthony replied. “And he didn’t just watch, but he also followed your development. I think, after three years he finally made that decision and wrote it in his will. He know you were worthy”
Skylar felt a sense of guilt creep into her heart. She remembered Lilian’s words,
“Skylar deappeared for six years How can she just come back and take everything!”
He felt the truth in Lilian’s words and could even put himself in their shoes,
They must be very disappointed and hurt.
Lilian, and Jenna
Expecially Gerry. He was the only son of Aaron Carter and he had worked and studied since he was young to manage the Carter family’s ever- growing company
There was no doubt that Gerry would be immediately crowned as Aaron Carter’s successor in the business world, when the real estate mogul was
gone.
No one counted on Skylar, especially after she disappeared. Her disappearance was a mystery, especially after people found out she and David were divorced and then not long after that, David and Jenna started dating openly,
Speculation abounded, but Aaron Carter ordered everyone around him to keep their mouths shut. Along the way, Aaron began distancing himself from his son’s family. He didn’t even show up to Jenna’s engagement to David.
1.shouldn’t have been selfish, Skylar muttered. “I should have made time to stay in touch with him, even if it was just by phone. He’s innocent and had nothing to do with the problems I faced six years ago. He’s the only person who loves me.”
Anthony stood up from his chair and walked over to Skylar, pulling her into his arms.
Skylar couldn’t hold it in anymore. She shed tears on Anthony’s shirt and sobbed. Her sadness over the loss of someone who meant so much to her was just beginning to be felt
Skylar hadn’t cried at all since she first set foot on Los Angeles soll, met her haters, who should be called family, buried her grandfather, then faced the emotions of people who couldn’t accept the contents of her grandfather’s will.
It all drained her
andiemotions. Skylar had tried not to show emotion and stay calm, but now she had reached her limit
Skylar shook in Anthony’s arms and he hugged her tighter.
Anthony remembered six years ago…
