Chapter 7
Lena jumped in shock and slammed the door shut, her face flushing red as she struggled to say anything. Kevin immediately sensed something was off and was about to ask when a desperate voice came from inside the room. “Kevin, help me!”
His expression darkened. He shoved Lena aside and pushed open the door. The moment it swung open, Zoey–tears streaming down her face- stumbled into his arms like a broken doll. Behind her, a man was stretching lazily, looking smug and satisfied.
Kevin had a sinking feeling about what was going on, but seeing it with his own eyes still hit him like a punch to the gut. “What the hell is going on?” he demanded, teeth clenched.
“It… it was Lena.” Zoey choked out through sobs. “She gave me a glass of wine earlier, and right after I drank it, I started feeling dizzy, and then this man, he–he did this to me.
Boom.
Lena stood frozen in disbelief.
“I did not!” she shouted, stunned by the audacity. Her voice turned cold as she looked straight at Zoey. “They were both into it. Don’t fall for her act, Kevin.”
“Shut up!” Kevin roared. His eyes burned with fury, like venom dripping from his gaze. “Lena, how low can you go? If you didn’t do anything, why were you lurking outside like some creep–and why slam the door the moment you saw me?”
And in that instant, it clicked for Lena.

She’d fallen into Zoey’s trap. Again. No matter what she said now, he wouldn’t believe her. But even if that was the case, she wasn’t about to take the fall for something she didn’t do.
“I just happened to be walking by. I wasn’t lurking, and I definitely didn’t drug her.”
“Oh, still playing innocent?” Kevin’s knuckles went pale as his fists clenched. He took off his coat and draped it over Zoey’s shoulders, then walked straight to the table and picked up the wine glass. Right on the rim–traces of white powder. Clearly, someone had drugged it.
He froze, face clouding over, then stalked toward Lena. “If you didn’t do it, prove it. Drink it.”
Lena dropped her eyes. Of course, he wouldn’t believe her.
A bitter smile tugged at her lips. She wanted to laugh, but when she looked up, her eyes were shining. Her voice trembled as she looked at him. “I didn’t do it. That’s the truth. I don’t need to prove anything.”
She turned to leave, but just as she pivoted, his hand clamped down on her wrist. “After what you did, you think you can just walk away?” Kevin growled. “Zoey might be too soft to fight back, but I’m not.”
His hand jerked her chin up–and the next second, he poured the entire glass of wine down her throat.
Lena choked violently, coughing as the liquid burned its way down. Before she could recover, he shoved her hard into the room, and she fell to the ground in a heap.
“Mr. Halden, what the hell is this?” said a man who’d been watching the whole thing unfold, clearly amused.
Kevin didn’t even look at him. “She’s all yours.” With that, he picked up

Lena’s entire body trembled. She looked up, heart pounding, but all she saw was his back–cold and heartless.
“Damn, with a body and face like that, she’s just as fine as that slut Zoey,” came a greasy, lecherous voice from above. “Looks like I got lucky tonight.”
Lena flinched, terror ripping through her as she scrambled backward–but then, a strange heat began to pulse through her veins, slowly clouding her thoughts and shredding her self–control.
“Stay away from me!” she cried.
“No point fighting it,” the man sneered. “That stuff hits hard. Just relax, baby–I’ll take real good care of you.” He pounced.
One hand clamped around her neck while the other tore at her clothes. He pressed himself down on her ravenously.
Humiliation. Fear. Despair.
Lena sobbed until her voice gave out. The door was shut tight. No one came. Her mind flashed with memories–tender moments with Kevin–but
now they were being ripped apart, one by one.
Just as the man was about to force himself on her, her hand landed on something nearby–a ceramic vase. Without hesitation, she grabbed it and smashed it against his head.
“Ahhh-!” the man screamed, clutching his scalp.
Trying to snap herself out of the haze, Lena reached for a sharp shard of the broken vase and drove it straight into her own thigh.
